Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Hi Forum:
Haven’t been on for a while as I’ve been in AZ.
I got a query from a Risner who said that her Grandfather Bruce Risner was called “Chickawa” as his Indian name.
Anyone know what Chickawa means? I’ve only found one legit reference for the word. Seems the Saluda River in SC is also referred to as the Chickawa River. Did the Chickawa Tribe live on that River?
There is also a mention of a Chickawa Tribe but very little to indicate if they really existed or where they lived or if they banded with another Tribe. This is not Chippawa or Chickasaw but a different word entirely.
Thanks to all the who monitor and help with our various problems. Clydene
