July 10, 2010 at 2:41 pm #35128on my left hand, it has always looked weird….like it was broken. I don’t know what that’s about. I have several oddities that match NA traits.

July 10, 2010 at 2:41 pm #35135Hi , I also have the same trait, was told that I was born with the vestige of another finger on my left pinky, additionally just about everyone in my fathers’s family, Williams/Caine out of lake Waccamaw N.C. also carry the same trait. Ive also met other native triracial people out of the southeast that carry the same trait. My guess its as a result of southeastern triracial native peoples marrying other southeastern triracial people
July 10, 2010 at 2:41 pm #35136Is the crooked pinky more from one tribe than another I think is key, for instance Saponi vs. Nanticoke(Delaware)/Assateague? Or SE Native tribes as you say? It is definitely genetic, dominant trait from everything I read, an a fairly well understood sign of native ancestry.
Interesting, I am trying to ID the tribe of Tom Hill, he lived amoung the native north of Indian River, he was cheif in 1742 (the native rebellion then with the Shawnee), I beleive he had a son Jonathan Hill, who had a son Elzy/Elzia (is Elzia a common Saponi name, like it is a Cherokee name), Elzy/Elzia was in our famly for 200 years since then. What I am trying to determine is was he Saponi, Nanticoke, or Assateague, since all three lived there at that time. If you send me your private email, I will tell you why I think Saponi (I have other surnames, and locations which correspond to Saponi/Occoneechee more than Nanticoke or Assateague).
My ggg grandfather married Eliza Webb, I believe also of native ancestry from the same area (have picture of her, she is native).
My YDNA suggests European ancestry shipwrecked, and my fav theory, Roanoke Island who went up the Roanoke river to the Occoneechee and some to Charlottsville, with that portion to make their way back east in the early 1700s per well understood history of migration.
July 10, 2010 at 2:41 pm #35139Did not mention above, Tom Hill (living in 1742 as Chief) and Indian River is in Sussex County, DEL, http://www.mitsawokett.com/Blackfoot.htm
The migration I mentioned above would see when the Saponi moved eastward in the late 1600s/1700s from Charlottesville, VA to Eastern Shore of DE/MD, includ, Sussex DEL, and Dagsboro/Blackfoottown.
