Hi my name is debra and I’m sure some has read my previous post.I have just come across a native american application for enrollment by a 4 great grandmother the year is 1896. tribe-cherokee application 615 roll#1 roll description roll 01-master index. what exactly would this be? debra
December 1, 2010 at 12:44 am #35601She was applying to get on the rolls. Can you tell if she was accepted? Many were not, quite often because they were from tribes no one knew much about, or because being Cherokee was the only acceptable way of claiming their heritage. In any case, they can be a real treasure trove of information that can be very credible. Get ahold of the application if you can. You probably have to go to DC to see it.
December 1, 2010 at 12:44 am #35603You can order copies to be mailed to you by contacting N.A.R.A. You would request an application jackect. Include your great grandmothers name. Send a money order for $15.

December 1, 2010 at 12:44 am #35606This site might help. http://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/dawes.php?s_last=hancock&s_first=&s_middle=&s_tribe=
Searching for your ancestor might allow you to obtain the application card number. I think maybe the site tells you how and where to get that information for viewing.
