JFYI
http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.walker/11591/mb.ashx
I had given up on trying to find the Walker/Walkingstick/Leaningwood and all their offspring connections . until I found Nortons diary and got to read it a few years back . and in there is a clear relationship between Shoeboots and a JOHN WALKER who is a trader on the miami river. so here I am stuck again with it , Walkers and walkingstick/Leaningwoods and such . it seems I am going to be forever stuck there .;)
on ancestry I posted some of this about this John Walker a year ago or so and waited a long time before discussing it .
anyway maybe it is possible Salukuki’s (walah) AKA Shoeboots is Relations ( somehow)to that John Walker mentioned in Nortons diary, and maybe has Lunenberg Co VA links if woodson wilson walker is his line also . so I decided to post it here also for Lunenberg County Va cherokee researchers .
years after trying to find that connection I found out I was also a Walker a few times. a William, Mason and a Woodson Wilson all from Troup CO Ga or nearby and they all have Lunenburg co Va links. and they appear to be indian. I decend from Nancy( tenase sp) Walker who married Brackeen, daughter married Sturgeon etc .
well the Woodson Wilson Walker it seems have connections to Lunenburg co Va. maybe and it also seems no other walkers are willing to be related to that John Walker who is a trader on the miami river and who is some how closely related to Shoeboots or his brothers or sisters .
so to the subject of my Walker line
I tell the whole story about my walker line someplace here
http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.walker/11591/mb.ashx
.. and how I KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THOSE PATITCULAR LINES of walkers I descend from, I did not know my mothers father and can hardly find where his mother get her
1/2 blood from , and she is recorded saying she is 1/2 indian .. but they have lunenburg co Va connections.
I also know that ” cherokee” leadership had turned the white folks loose on Dragging canoe a few times, and he felt little or no real loyality towards them by the end of his life.
He is also not cherokee by blood , not any cherokee and he is not from Ollie Nionee.. Shoeboots and Dragging canoe were 1/2 brothers . and because of ollie nionee and Oconostota Shoeboots does have cherokee blood and thus he is wiling to submit to their goofy demands and commands . but his brother was not ..
the cherokee leadership wanted to force Dragging Canoe to live with the cherokee because they wanted control over him and he didnt’ want to be controlled by them. so they had the whites attack him a few times It seems to get him to move his towns back to the cherokee lands..
and so I have no idea where all of his family is or Shoeboots very first family before clarinda , in the years 1824 Shoeboots states he has no other children in the cherokee nation at that time.. so where are they then? where is Boggs and this John Walker , I know he has more daughters too.
in Nortons diary Shoeboots aka Salukuki(walah) has clear family connections to Boggs and this John Walker. so where is that John Walkers family? and how exactly is He related to Shoeboots.
I can not for sure locate any of Shoeboots siblings families either, some appear connected to the creeks maybe ( polly parrot) line might be his first wife or her daughter… but it is very disheartening that I have forgot most everything I was told about how they were all related.
I can’t help but feel there might be a Lunenburg Co VA link with that line of Walkers and others there claiming cherokee blood to the
cherokee family, the same I can’t find at all and no one seems to want to claim him either .
I guess I said this to let those who have VA “cherokee” roots that your ancestors just might not be lying! no matter what anyone else says and what they claim they can prove .
as I have watched the hocus-pocus pulled off to make sure cherokee claims are disproved at any and all costs. even to the point of completely dominating every surname board connected to the cherokee, but mostly by talking down everybody else’s grandmothers , which is very untraditional of them don’t you think?
but politics and tradition sure does make for strange bed fellows.. you see I hit the same kind of political walls with my Ross line .
that point I hadn’t remember lizzy jane last name. I went to the Ross boards when I started trying to remember my family stories and asked about a Ross line who’s grandpa was ” the chief of the cherokee” I found no link from chief Ross and that line totally rules the forum boards , she was not that Ross family and she had not married that ross family at all and thus they said she was probably not cherokee and that someone in my family was a liar.
so then I remembered links to the Ridge family and them all Walking and floating down a river with them on the trail of tears.. somehow and well ask the Ridge family about it and they told me “AINT NO ROSS CONNECTED TO THIS FAMILY!!” which I have no doubt that there is no chief ross relations … in the Ridges relations.. but that wasn’t my Ross! we figured it out and now they know they did have a few “ross ” relations. but not that other Ross.
but I finally figured it out .. yes there sure was a lady married to a different Ross( not chief ross) and she sure was related to the Ridge family, and who’s grandpa was head chief of the cherokee .. actually two or three of them. Lizzy jane Shoeboot sure as heck was cherokee and listed on all rolls and lists …. pryor too but not the Dawes and Baker rolls. She died in I think Logan co AR just before 1890’s living near or around her daughter Katie Dameron and son Noble L Ross. my grandfather robert and his wife died in jackson CO AR just before the dawes and their orphans sent to her family David Collins 1850 in west plain MO. so Robert Ross was not listed on the dawes.
so it looks like this walker line is hitting the same kind of political walls that keep stuff .. status quo for all their own political reasons. yep that special kind of politics that gets a life all their own.
so maybe other Lunenburg co va LIARS (;)Just kidding!!!)/mixed cherokee folks might want to read Nortons diary to see if it triggers any memories or somehow explains old records that haven’t made any sense to date ..
and so maybe Walker Y dna project will help some of these questions if Ridges and Watie start coming up with matches with Walkers or Walkingsticks . the problem might be though these lines are from daughters and their sons could be any y dna, maybe.
if anyone figures out ANYTHING interesting or has any questions . let me know
http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.walker/11591/mb.ashx
but this is the best I can put it together with the info I can find relevant up to this point.
if anyone has any info to add to this that might be relevant ..
i’m just putting this out for your info , hopefully my opinions and vague memories and strange childhood concepts help someone figure something out somehow.

April 18, 2011 at 5:25 pm #36343My family Grand dad forward is Walker. I was tied up on this search until I found a group of Walkers in Wayne County Georgia that Died near 1880 of Consumption and many brothers died and all children distributed to other Walker families in Both Ga. and N.C. George Washington walker and Nancy McDonald (Cherokee) from Spring Place Ga. raised my GDad from 1880 until adult. He was Franklin and lived with His parents from 1868 to 1880. father was John and mother Sidney Jacobs. Also Keziah walker female name was Seminole interwed into Walker. This is what I have execpt for Lots of walkers in Colleton S.C. and all around Catawba reservation at Ayor S.C. Also Fairfield S.C. was many Walkers and Wolf Pit N.C.

April 18, 2011 at 5:25 pm #36348HI John when was your George born? and where was he born.
this is supposedly my line of walkers.
SO now are they somehow related to shoeboots?
I really don’t know.
I know a John walkers is son or son in law of Shoeboots AKA turtle at home , and JOHN Boggs is a son in law of Shoeboots, these are the only two I know of for sure. but I think there is more daughters so maybe more son in laws.
I have no idea how much to trust ancestry and other peoples work. I really don’t know anything about all the walkers in my line and I am not a good researcher. I only know what I was told about my family . only that some of the walkers are related to Shoeboots somehow. and I confirmed that in Norton’s diary. but I really don’t know which ones are his family , or maybe his family and or the in laws..?????
Ok Shoeboots first wife is the daughter of Gov. Henry Hamiliton/ ‘Hair Hamilton’. but I don’t know what name she goes by . there is no record of that daughters birth or a marriage to Hamilton by any white woman. , maybe because it is an indian woman there is no records . there is no white woman wife of Hamilton except one recorded when he was like 70 years old. . I’m 100 % sure he is Shoeboots father in law. and I find no walkers married to Hamiltons in the right time frame. soooooooooooooo
I can’t find a John walker who’s mom is maybe a( “mary polly” ?)Hamilton.. then again indians followed their own naming rules so who knows what she called her last name .. I can’t find anything in the walking sticks either , they just don’t go back very far. except for a katie walkingstick picks up Shoeboots nephew , John cochran at Shoeboots sister house . john Cochran is a grandson of Shoeboots sister. so Katie walking stick/leaning wood is most likely a very close relation if not a sister to John Cochran’s dead mother , john was an orphan his mother had died . either way she/ katie was most likely the same clan.
There is like a gap of 50 years no one has info on. which make me suspect it is forgot on purpose and thus politically incorrect to remember it for some reason. wow shall we make some wild guesses!! ????
I do believe that John Walker that was murdered just before the trail of tears/ one of ridge party/one of the treaty party is Shoeboots son but I can’t prove it. and maybe that is why it is politically incorrect to talk about the murdered and exact what may have happened to their families.
I don’t know if Woodson Wilson Walker is really that line from the John Walker who is mentioned in Nortons diary or not. that John Walker he has an indian name like Susquaohho or kind of like that. and he is connected to the Miami river in Ohio.
I know that woodson wilson walker census in Troup Ga , Woodson says he is a “steam doctor”. and they didn’t have carpet cleaners back then. so I think he thinks he is indian enough. I don’t know the names in those lines from ancestry enough to guess if they might be really be indian.. I am not convinced my John is going to have lots of white folks records to trace him anyplace. so I don’t know where to go from there.
I come down from Nancy T Walker >Bracken, Sturgeon and there is two other walkers in my smith line. mason and william all from the same areas.

that is my mason I pretty sure.
this line seems connected to VA. or SC before that too maybe.

this line is probably the john who was murdered. so this might be anyone.
ok so if katie is katie Walkingstick also. then we know we are close..
but how does it fit.
Shoeboots did live with the shawnee for a few years .
his grandma was abducted and some of Ollie’s 1/2 siblings are known as shawnees , Conastoga , Onondagas , Mingo because they married into those tribes and they had relations within those tribes. .
and he spent lots of time in detroit with the shawnee .
and Shoeboots had lots of connections with his shawnee relatives especially when his father in law was Governor Hamilton in detroit .
so is John Jack Walker / walkingstick the white/legal name turtle at home ? I just don’t remember!!
or maybe Katie Kingfisher( name from second marriage) walker/ walkingstick/leaning wood is Shoeboots sister and that would make John Jack Walker Shoeboots brother in law and Shoeboots sister and john jack walker met when shoeboots was with the shawnee ?
or John Jack Walker is one of his brothers name and Shoeboots was just hosting his nephew those weeks.and it was his nephew not his son who was murdered ?
other interesting factors is
from last 2 wives Shoeboots sons are named
there is 2(or 3 John’s (1 possible John Walker/ Walkingstick/ Leaning wood )
then oldest of clarinda is John Ellington and
oldest of dolly is John Boots
there is 2 younger william’s
William ellington and
William Boots
1 Lewis lewis boots the twin of william and he is lost forever it seems.
so shoeboots does seem to like the first name John and gives that name to his oldest sons with each woman we know of. and I know beyond any doubt he has one more or maybe two more wives .
when Lizzy Shoeboots/ boots names her oldest son Salleekookie like her father his legal name is JOHN ross but he is really the son George lavender. then John names his son George.
man I can’t guess anymore .. there is just too many really big pieces missing so now everyones guess is as good as mine.
have fun! I do know beyond any doubt that the walkers / walking sticks are most definitely closely related to Shoeboots , Ridge, watie and Attakullakullas sons and daughters someway .
April 18, 2011 at 5:25 pm #36353I have found many of my brick walls.. being things like how the name Logan was connected to this family..
but one odd name I know I know I know is connected someplace is the name “Tandy”, I know that name is important..
but I can’t figure it out.
the only thing I can find that is interesting is all these walkers are pointing at Lunenburg Va and there is a Tandy walker who is from there , I think there just might be some kind of old connection somehow.
but I can’t remember what it is..
i knew the name Logan was very important
and that turned out chief Logan was Ollie Nione’s full or half brother.
and Tandy is also one of those names I just can’t shake.
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=fredbailey9233&id=I124930
I might say that this one could be dragging canoe maybe . age and such. knowing one of the brothers is going snake/ hair lip.. is probably going snake also.
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=fredbailey9233&id=I124931
also
http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.walker/9248.2/mb.ashx
I suspect she is Shoeboots sister or maybe daughter or grandaughter.
and all those people not in the tribe is because they ran because John walker and the John ridge and the Ridge was murdered. and that was the head of the family period. and they had no protection legal or otherwise with out them.
it clear in these applications that a John Walker is connected to Betsey Walker.
I just don’t know how the name Tandy probably comes into it.
maybe others can play with it.. gee what a puzzle! what a mess history is … how scary are people anyway!
