Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
FYI – this is Nottoway Indian Land deeded from Wm. Simmons to Ambrose Williams—–
“Pg.385 13 Nov 1746…William Simmons, Gent., of Surry Co. to Ambrose Williams of Isle of Wight..545a. on North Nottoway River (w/225a deed to Henry Simmons from the Chief Man of the Nottoway Indians dated 6 July 1739 who sold it to William Simmons on 24 Nov 1739 with remaining 320a being a deed from the Nottoway Indians on 6 July 1739 to John Ruffin, Gent…who sold it to William Simmons on 24 Nov. 1739) adj. the Atsamosock Swamp, William Simmons, Jr. and the Nottoway Indians. Rec 13 Nov 1746” (p 537 has relinquish of Dower.) Signed: Wm. Simmons.
The Simmons, Williams, Ruffins lived together or as very close neighbors.
I am not sure if this is my Ambrose Willliams b. 1725-30 – sure looks like it could be him but thought it might help some Simmons – Ruffins. Clydene
