Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Hi! This is the first time I have posted on here and hope I can find out about my heritage. My Great Grandmother Amy (Emma) Evans often told her children that she was “Blackfoot “. She was born in PA around 1876 and raised in Marshall County, WV. She died in Sebring, Ohio around 1975. In the late 1800’s she married William Strait and in her later years went by the name of Emma, opposed to using Amy. I do not know much more about her, as I just recently discovered this side of my Family. So if there are any decendents of the Evans, I would love to hear from you! Thanks!

Hey Dale, welcome to Saponitown. I have an Evans line out of Granville co, NC. Also, Daniel Boone’s wife was an Evans from the same area. If you haven’t already, use the search for Evans and for Strait to find threads where these names occur. Probably won’t help with your direct line but may show you where the names came from and migrated to. I do feel that my Evans was from a mixed blood family.
Hi Dreaminghawk!
Thanks! I will definitely follow your advice.

Do you have Emma’s obit? Do you know when and where William died? What about their marriage license? Do you have access to census records? 1940 is now available. If you know where they were in 1940, then you might be able to trace them backwards from there. Unfortunately, I do not have Ancestry or any other online service.
Hi Dreaminghawk!
I am in the process of obtaining the obituary information thru the funeral home that my family has used since the early 1900’s. I am hoping I can move forward once I obtain this information. I will keep you notified on what I find. Thanks!
