Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Thamar Taylor 1703-1737 married to William Duke 1701-1775 Brunswick VA. Thamar would be my fifth great grandmother. I have heard off and on that she was 100% Saponi. I can find no proof. Is there anyone who can help? Marilyn

I have been trying to search the exact same thing, with no luck. If you or anyone else finds out, please let me know. I am also a decendant of hers.

Who has been saying she’s Saponi? Did they give any details?
I have a tree on Ancestry and several trees have a picture of a portrait of a beautiful Native American woman said to be Thamor. No proof. No details. I have even tried to research the portrait. No luck. I would think, if true, there would be information somewhere since this is a well researched family.

She was the wife of William Raleigh Duke of Virginia. His parents were James Duke and Mary Byrd. Both families apparently well known historically in Virginia. The only thign I found was that Thamar Taylor was her given name by William’s parents; whom were her “adopted” parents as well. She was born in 1703 and died 1737. I have been hitting walls everwhere I go to to see if this is all accurate. Any advice on how to verify if she was indeed Saponi Native American?
