Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
I have done further research concerning the surname Peasley. There may be an ancestral connection between my Rogers ancestors and the Peasley family. According to the website Peasley Surname History — House of Names, “the name Peasley belongs to the early history of Britain, its origins lie with the Anglo-Saxons. It is a product of their having lived in ‘Beasley,’ in the county of Lancashire. The Peasley family was first found in Warwickshire, where they held a family seat from ancient times, long before the Norman Conquest in 1066.” And, according to the website http://www.ancestry.com, “Beasley” is an “English habitational name from a place in Lancashire named Beesley, perhaps from Old English beos ‘bent grass’ plus leah ‘woodland clearing.'” “Peasley” and “Beazley” are variations of the surname “Beasley.” Eileen Beasley, who died in 2012, was a successful campaigner in Wales to preserve the Welsh language. She is honored as the “mother of direct action” in Wales and the “Rosa Parks of Wales” for her courage and determination.
