Shepherd last name heritage questions

Hi!

You stated that your NA Ancestors lived in MD and also noticed Collins was one of your family surnames. Were you related to a Mary Collins, who married Phillip Evans Jr. in MD? Phillip Evans Jr. was Blackfoot (Saponi) and I believe Mary was also. This would have been around 1750. I would appreciate any help you could give me on this. Thanks!

This from my family tree, my Shepards are from Francis D Shepard who married Robert Wesley Wilkerson, my great, great Grandfather.. I don’t know of any Indian connections in these Shepards. That doesn’t mean there isn’t one..

I don’t know if they are relations, but here is my Shepherd line.

I’m sorry I cant recall the direct source, but was from a genealogy website, and unfortunately I cant find it at the moment either because my records are split up due to a recent move…but maybe you can find something of it.

But was a book of the Shepherds from VA, stated: Thomas Shepherd from England, founded Shepherdstown VA.

I wish my records weren’t split up or I could give you specific dates. But to give an idea, his daughter Martha was born there in 1752.

Thomas also had more children as well, sorry I cant verify if yours came from the same, but best of luck.

My third great grandmother Rebecca Shepherd descends from the mixed-blood Shepherds of Halifax/Person. Rebecca’s grandfather William was born in Halifax in 1775,he is listed on a compiled census tax list as a Person NC resident in 1793, William died in Wise Va in 1828, on the VA/KY border.

Many researchers believe these Shepherds might have a connection to the Croatan Indians and the lost colony of Roanoke.

I have traced Rebecca’s lines to Israel Shepherd born about 1645 in Currituck (eastern NC), this family moves west from there and ends (for me) on the Virginia/Kentucky border by around 1800.

A quick search on ancestry.com shows a few trees for your George Henry Shepherd married to Eugenia Hopson,

Father: Edwin Shepherd born about 1812 VA death unknown married to Martha ??

Grandfather: George Shepherd born about 1766 Orange VA died before 1837 in Christian Ky married to Ann Porter 1770-1796?

Great grandfather: Andrew Shepherd born about 1730 Aberdeenshire, Scotland died 1804 Orange Va married to Elizabeth Bell born about. 1750 Va..
