Ahkonshuck is the ‘Virginia Siouan’ name recorded by John Lederer for the Blue Ridge according to some sources. Other sources say it was a name for a village or a people in the Blue Ridge. Grandfather Mountain near Boone NC is said to be Tanawha in Cherokee.
Wondering if anyone else has seen or heard these names?
In this High Plains Sappony video ‘ahkonshuck’ is translated as ‘high lands’ or ‘high plains’.
