I just came across some interesting information tonight. This may be crucial in finding my own Native American ancestry because I share this genetic segment which appears to be Native American in origin with another family {they also claim native ancestry}. I don’t know if they are Saponi, but I’ll take any information if anyone knows anything about these families. They are the Austins and Peebleys. They seem to have been from Tennessee but moved westwards.

Looks like the common ancestor between myself and these people could be one of the two white families mentioned – the Austins or the Peebleys. The names of the white families were carried forward thru the offspring of the mulatto families, which is really unusual. William and Alexander/Alec were especially popular. Looks like the Mary mentioned in the article married a Slaughter after Toliver Hodges and died young, as there are young Slaughter kids being raised by Fanny and Frank. Many of the men served in the colored regiments during the Civil War – some in Missouri and some in Kansas.
Is anyone aware of any of these families having native ancestry?
