Hello All!
My name is Adam Collins from Surry/Wilkes county in NC. I have been investigating my geniology and found that my Collins family came thru Virginia and then spread from there. It is said and I have seem some documentation that some of the family was miloto and melungion. Family members include David, Levi, Thomas, several Johns’s and James Collins. I have hit several walls and am looking for any other avenues that might lead to further information. Blessings to all!
July 30, 2015 at 3:19 am #37620Welcome to Saponitown. By searching “Collins” here at Saponitown, you should find threads and links to about all of the genealogical and DNA info available on the Collins family. A good place to start is the research done by the late Brenda Collins Dillon.

Yes you did Ken. It was a good weekend!
July 30, 2015 at 3:19 am #37623Bland is always special. I can’t wait until we can dance at the village.
Dark Mountain coming up weekend after this coming. N. Wilkesboro just across the Scott dam….. that ain’t far from Thurman.
Collins is probably one of the most researched surnames coming out of this area. You should answer a lot of your questions before you finish the info available here. Then you will be left with the same mysteries as 10,000 other Collins researchers. 😉
What other surnames do you connect to? …especially wives…. you are likely to find many mixed lines as they traveled and married together.
Happy hunting

There are several wives names that I a haven’t even started on. Most of the wives are English in decent but there are those such as Thomas Collins that is left to be found out about. A lot of digging is needed! Blessings, peace happiness and much love to you and your family!
July 30, 2015 at 3:19 am #37625I didn’t realize that Young Eagle was one of the scouts that helped out at the Thurman powwow back in 2012 until MommaBear told me. So I guess you were the scout leader that I talked with in the community center after The Storm. That storm still holds the record for most blown-away and/or mangled canopies and tents of any powwow that we have attended.
Two more articles that should be considered must reading for anyone researching VA/NC mixed bloods:

I was the Sm at the time that they had the pow wow at Thurmond. We appreciate the opportunity that we had at Dark Mtn this past weekend.
July 30, 2015 at 3:19 am #37643It was good to see you and the young Eagle again this weekend. A lot of special things happened this weekend…. still trying to absorb it all. Also glad you got a chance to talk with Barry. A lot of folks think Barry and I are brothers. Does that much of the Collins show in me? 😉
Happy hunting
