Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
This is a major breakthrough! I was able to verify a connection to the Stewart family of one of my Saponi descended DNA matches. They are related to my birth father’s family. I have not yet been able to name an exact common Stewart ancestor but we have a pretty good idea. We’re working on it.
This person is one of my highest matches {within the 4th to 6th cousin range}. The segment we share even comes up as Native American on my end. I’m just asking in this post if anyone knows anything about the Stewart family.
This family is first found in Virginia and later migrated to Tennessee, Pennsylvania and Ohio. People in this family include;
John Peaterson Stewart {1757-1817}, son of Edward “Ned” Stewart and Frances Dungey
Edward “Ned” Stewart {1721-1801}, son of Elizabeth Stewart
Elizabeth Stewart {b. 1695}, mother of William, Matthew, Mary and Martha Stewart
John Peaterson Stewart and Edward “Ned” Stewart may even be potential common ancestors. We’re still looking into this.
Do any of these people have any alleged Saponi or Native American ancestry?
