Snow started this evening. My daughter was bringing me home from the hospital and we turned on the news to discover they are forcasting anywhere from 10 -30 ” of the white stuff. If I disappear send you will know what happened.

Lucky you. How much snow did you finally get?
It just missed us. Just snow flurries all day yesterday and all of that melted away by 4 PM.

I got up this morning to a white blanket of snow on the ground. We already have 10″ and they are forcasting blizzard conditions by this afternoon when another front joins the one already here. All in all this storm is not expected to be over til Monday morning.
We live out in the country, a small town called Assonet. If you care to look it up on a map we are about 7 miles north of Fall River close to the Rhode Island border. There are no shopping centers close nor nursing homes so we are usually one of the last places to get plowed. Of course we didn’t look into that when we moved here in June. (last thing on our mind) We also didn’t check out the local utilities and now discover that our electric is always going out. We have lost power three times over the past two weeks and winter hasn’t officially arrived yet.
I live with my daughter and three granddaughters (10, 14 & 15) since my husband passed away. The kids are already asking to go outside and make snow angels, oh to be young again. The snow is pretty but this old woman doesn’t like it. It means I am house bound til further notice. Thank God for the computer IF I don’t loose the power.

Brenda, if you call around you can find a heater that hooks directly up to a barbacue type propane bottle, they have several types that are free standing so you can move them around. I live in an area that has really bad winters, we’ve been down to 32 below already this winter, with 3 feet of snow!
Look around for a small coleman type stove like what you’d take camping if the heat goes out you can cook and stay warm, if your stove is gas remove all of the inner parts until only the flame is visable, don’t use it for long periods of time, use hot water bottles for heat when sitting around,lastly put blankets up to your doors from room to room, just like Granny used to do.

Tom, Could have used one of those heaters last night. Power kept going off and on then we were watching the news and it just went out. ( abt 11:00 PM) We decided to all go to bed as that was warmest place. At 3 AM I got up and decided to call the power company in case they didn’t know we were down but telephones were out also. Phones came back on about 9 AM this morning and electric about 10 AM. It really helps when you have good nieghbors. We have only lived here in Assonet since June but the woman across the road brought coffee over and some good samiritan showed up , plowed our drive way , waved his hand and was gone. We have no idea who he was. It is nice to know there are wonderful people out there when the cause arrises.
We have about 22 ” of snow with 5-7 foot drifts. Tonight it has all turned to ice and the wind has picked up. I am checking my email then turning the machine off.

I’ve been worrying about you, Brenda. What weird weather we have these days. It rained like crazy down here all summer, floods, floods, floods. Now this.
Isn’t that what they say about global warming? It will mostly manifest in weird, unpredictable weather patterns. Ultimately making it difficult to do agriculture. How cheering. Maybe I better shut up.

Add to that that Wisconsin does not have any snow yet – at least not where we are. I don’t mind – the drive to work is 65 miles as it is without snow to make it more interesting.

We ended up with 24 ” of snow. It looks like a winter wonderland and it would be nice to think of a white Christmas however they are forcasting rain comming in for Wednesday and Thursday. Don’t know where we are going to put it all.
All the kids are out of school. the sides of the roads are plowed higher than the adverage car. People are out walking and you can’t see them until they go past the driveway. Looks like an never ending bunch of tunnels. North of us got slammed with over 3 feet of snow and parts of NH got over 4 feet. Guess we were lucky it wasn’t worse.
Tom, we definally have to look into a back up for heat and something we can at least heat water on. I have a wood stove in the garage that I wouldn’t part with when we moved. My husband made it when he worked as a burner at Westinghouse. I kept it only because he made it. Maybe we’ll have to put it back into action. It has a flatt top and I have actually cooked meals on it for an entire week when Hurricane Bob hit several years ago.

Hello Ms. Claus”? , not at all, the greenhouse effect and global warming is really an oxymoron when it comes to canadas winter’s and I see your’s aswell.
The worst thing about the winter is not snow, it’s the folks that find themselves in a mess, but who knew you folks would get our winter.
Cheer up as they say up here; ït’ll get worse”!.

OK, it is finally my turn to be buried. Up to 8 inches of snow expected with winds to blow it around. Only three days ago, you could play golf (in Wisconsin in January!).
