Hey there all of you Saponis; Have you ever heard of two Indian interpretors named Joshua and Thomas Wynne ca. 1700 in Prince George county Va.? Their father was Robert Wynne and mother was Mary Francis Sloman Poythress. They may or may not have had something to do with the Nottaways.
Dan Akin.
May 21, 2004 at 11:24 pm #9729They were actually in co-hoots with Peter Poythress, interpreter for the Tuscarora and they traded with the Occaneechi. I have my speculations regarding the descendency of that group of Wynns/Poythress and their English blood
May 21, 2004 at 11:24 pm #9730Crystal; Please tell me what you mean. I’ll take anything even speculation. Don’t worry you won’t hurt my feelings.
I keep having the things that I study in my families to go back to the James and Appomattox Rivers. My Winn/Brink line claims Cherokee heritage also. My Green line goes back to Prince George county. My Bakers claim to have mixed with the Bollings. Etc.

When Gov Spotswood was establishing Ft Christanna, he was having difficulty getting the funding so he formed the VA Trade Co. Wynne as well as Poythress, Wall, Bollings, etc. These were all traders with Ft Christanna. Upon the closure of the Ft, this land was dispersed to the investors as a pymt for money lost. This, in turn, puts them owning property in the vicinity of present day Brunswick Co. VA.
The majority of your Colonial VA names all inner-twine to the point of incoherency. And when you throw business in on top of pleasure, you get the good ole James River Plantations. Have you ever read VA Purse and Persons? It goes into great detail of these primary VA Colonial Families.
This subject, regarding the traders is really just being tapped into and coming to any conclusion at this point would be extremely premature but I will tell you, speculate away sweetheart. Considering that you have 2 sets of each of your Colonial Families, one “Red or Black” and one “White” leaves your mind to wander many a direction.

I don’t know about roaches, but there is mention that our young guys wore something like a Mohawk hairdo and were into lots of wild warpaint.
