Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Just wondering if anyone knew the location of the Bethany school in northampton co/ greensville co border—a family mbr and also a friends family mbr gave me similiar directions, but still no luck in locatin the school or the cemetary–i have also heard 2 different stories—one that it is no longer standing and another that it is now a flat top house that has been renovated?? not sure which is true! The directions i have is turn right onto cal flotd road off of hwy 46 in gaston–go down road about 1- 1 1/2 miles and its located on the left—I CAN NOT find it:confused: —-ANYONE have better directions or any tales about the location of the cemetary–???
Jeanna,
The school is located on Cal Floyd like you were told. Look for the cinderblock bldg on the left with the fence around it and the horses in the yard. That is it. Very simple bldg.
I, too, have heard that there were two schools and that the first one burned down. I have yet to find anyone locally that can verify that. Just what I have heard from outside researchers.
Our cousin Julia has pictures of the inside and I have a copy of the article that was written about the Portuguese School in the 1950’s in the VA Pilot. That was the article that caught the attention of the Associated Press and when the Ambassador of Portugual became involved in disputing the nationality of our people.
