My family has identified as both cherokee and “blackfoot”. My 3rd great grandmother Catherine Breeze from Indian woods born around 1800 in Edward NC before marrying my ancestor and ending up in the Mohawk valley. Her son married into a cherokee family but she fled NY with ue kids during the Removal Act to canada where we ultimately lost our indigenous identity upon return to Michigan. My research on the local mounds found local links to both the cherokee and the peidmont Sioux before displacement to the peidmont following the French and Indian war. Archeologists on Harvard records indicate the Saponi and tuscarora amd cherokee were here in Michigan and Ohio as well as in Ontario and NY, tied to the ” neuteals” or Chiwantan or Attiwandaron (“people who speak a slightly different language”) which is rumored to be the ancestors of those displaced to Virginia, Indian woods and qualla in NC amongst other places.
Both of my parents DNA tests from dna consultants and run by a cherokee man confirm indigenous DNA for both as well as a genetic tie to Elvis Presley, as well as multiple poulatuins across north and south ameirica as well as other admixtir3s associated with the peidmont and missippian mound cultures which both sides have always known the above before comparing my parents dna test with an alleged Elvis sample on ice since the 70s that is absolutely a genetic relative of both parents tests even if it can’t be proven it’s Elvis( a portuguese name popular still today in Brazil), it has to be a Presley relatives regardless, and he is showing Michigan Indigenous ties to mounds besides cherokee and ancient burials in the state on file as well as the admixtures that include brazillian, Portuguese, Venuzuelan and Mexican indigenous among several other distinct admixtures from the middle east and iberia down the same indigenous lines in consitent with my parents Presley lines. Check out the research Henry Gillman did on the Michigan mounds and his report called ” playsism and the mounds builder sof michigan” or something to the like for harvard where he points out a distinct traceable feature of our ancestors in the mounds here and their leg bone structure in their lower leg.
I would love to see all of us identifying as blackfoot have in common woth our DNA by starting a dna project about it.
