Antillicus Brock Valentine

All these records refer to Mecklenburg Co., Va with the Township/ District spelled out as well as the census page number. With the exception of 1930, all Valentine’s in Mecklenburg Co. were always listed as “Mu” and all were born in Virginia. His age recorded on several census are pretty inexact but the further back we go the more accurate it starts to look.

In 1930 La Crosse Dist., pg.15B:

“Antilicey” Valentine, age 65, first married at age 24, and his wife is an IDA B. _?_, b.abt.1881, who was first married at age 15 but they had no children together.

Living there are:

Freda (?), son, 27. (1st letter illegible but he’s indexed “Freda”)

Henry, Grandson, 9.

Eulia B., niece, 18.

(Record is very difficult to read)

In 1920 La Crosse Dist., pg. 263A:

VALENTINE,

“Antilicust”, farmer; 52, was widowed and 4 children were living with him:

…Hailey B. (Mahaly/Mahala), dau, 20 yrs old, b.Va.

…Mary V. (a.k.a. “Vaugie”?), dau, 18, b.Va.

…Freda (“Niya”?), son, 17, b.Va.

…Olivia (?) (“O?su?ier”), dau, 15, b.Va.

(the last two names were extremely difficult to make-out!)

In 1910 La Crosse Twp, pg.27B:

VALENTINE,

Brock, 37, married twice, this one for 1 year,

Nansy, wife, 26, married once for 1 year, has had no children.

Mahaly, dau, 12.

Vaugie (?), dau, 10.

Virgie, dau, 8.

Zira (?) (Ira ? Freda ?), son, 6.

In 1900 South Hill Dist., pg. 250B:

VALENTINE,

“Antilicus”, farmer, b. Nov 1869, age 31, married 9 years.

Fannie (1st letter uncertain), wife, b.Aug 1874, age 25, m’d 1 yr.

Earing, son, b.May 1894, 6.

Clarence, son, b.Apr 1896, 4.

Haly, dau, b.Jun 1899, 11 months old. (same as Mahaly/Mahala)

Next door to them was Antillicus’s brother:

Marriage Record (LDS files, Salt Lake City, Utah, from county records):

Beverly VALENTINE married Martha FEAGONS (prob. same as FAGONS), on Dec 21, 1840 in Mecklenburg Co., Va.

Whether Martha and Mahaly are the same person or sisters or other relatives is a question.

There are additional records back into the 1700s but I’ll post them tomorrow – ran out of time by looking for Peter Clay/Clary!
