Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Greetings All,
I am looking for information about the family of Charles BEASLEY b. 1738 in either Caroline or Spotsylvania, VA (some sources say Craven, NC) d. 1802 in KY. His father is reported as John (b. 1717) and mother Jane CAGWELL. Charles had sons Benjamin, John, James, and Jeptha, maybe others. Well before 1800 most of these brothers moved westward and eventually settled in Mason, KY and Brown, OH (across the Ohio river).
Charles is reported to have married Susannah ALLEN (daughter of William Hunt ALLEN and Frances GRANT, but I have seen conflicting information about her husband’s name). I have seen William and Frances’ Susannah reportedly married a BUTLER was born 7 years before my Susannah and with a different wife. I don’t know what that information was based on. I did find two VA marriage records that do not mention county: 1) Charles Beasley (1738) m. Susannah Allen (1742), and 2) William Allen (1700) m. Frances Grant (1716) in 1740. Susannah died in 1814 in KY.
So I am looking for any information about these Beasleys from Spotsylvania/Caroline county and also trying to determine whether or not my Susannah Allen is indeed the daughter of William Hunt ALLEN and Frances GRANT.
I greatly appreciate any thoughts you have!
Jen Sunrise
Added: Charles also had a brother Nathaniel (m. Sarah Sutton) that came to KY/OH as early as 1788.
