Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Bill,
In an older thread you said Sparks was one of your surnames. My grandfather was a Sparks, though my maiden name was Bragg. His stepfather, Ellison Bragg, adopted my father at birth. My father’s biological father Lloyd Sparks was killed in a dispute with Ellison in the late 50’s. No one seems to want to share any info on him, and because of the circumstances I do not want to press them either. You wouldn’t have a Lloyd Sparks in your family would you? Finding my paternal line is truly a challenge; I only have a handful of photos, and a few stories. Though, now through censuses, books and help from you and others, I am finally finding some answers. No one in the family talks of growing up in Virginia; it is as if they just want to forget. I did not meet my father until I was 18 and then we were estranged for another twenty years; we are finally putting together a relationship. My family is illusive, which makes finding answers very hard. In July, I am planning to visit my aunts in WV. I am also going to Grundy, VA to see what I can find on the family.

No, no Lloyd, and no “real” Sparks either 🙂
Sarah (nee: ? ) Sparks , b.abt. 1690 (Old) Rappahannock, which became Essex Co in 1692, m’d Anthony Foster, d. 1763 (Will) Spotsylvania Co.
Rechecking notes: Mrs Sarah Sparks was apparently a widow by March 1716 after which she m’d Anthony Foster so her maiden name wasn’t Sparks.

Thanks Bill, I will have to keep searching.
