Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
hi it’s been forever since i posted, not much to report since then. i’ve been slowly working on genealogy, but mostly my father’s side, with some extremely interesting results. so far the blackfoot designation comes from my maternal great grandmother whose maiden name was gurganus, not sure if the blackfoot was on that side or her mother’s side which was cherry. she came from the pitt, martin, beaufort, washington area of north carolina. supposedly annie cherry was (at least part) native american. she married jimmy frank gurganus. they were both born about 1859-60. i believe they lived in the beargrass area. i’ve been on the gurganus.org website, which although extensive,is not much help in the case of my annie and jimmy. jimmy’s father
‘s name was mayer (mayor?) supposedly. i checked out a major gurganus, but wrong kids, etc. anybody out there got blackfoot/gurganus or blackfoot/cherry north carolina oral history?
Sorry I almost missed your post. I did a search and found someone with a Cherry name
You may find more, just use the search button above.
I know those locations would be typical.
