I am involved in the research of my Boling line. Recently, it has come to my attention that my 7th g-grandfather, William Bowling/Boling may have been a Saponi indian. Here is my descendancy to him:

He was born about 1705 and his parents may have been associated with Fort Christanna. This Boling line eventually migrated from Va to around Randolph Co., NC and then on to Blount Co., TN. I received either an email or post-it note or some means of communication not long ago about a William Boling being Saponi indian from someone. I sent an email back to them but haven’t gotten an answer back. Is there anyone here that might be able to shed some light on this connection? I am working with other Boling researchers from Group 6 of the Bolling/Boling Y-DNA research group. Most, if not all of Group 6 descends from the NC Bolings. I would welcome anyone with any kind of info to contact me here please. Thanks! Ron Smith
P.S. We are NOT descendants of Pochahontas and aren’t claiming to be. If we could find a link to the Saponi nation, we would be very proud to be a part of your people, no matter what amount of blood flows through our veins.
November 6, 2005 at 6:42 am #17366Hi, Ron,
I haven’t seen anything on a William Boling born 1705, nor on his son William, b. 1733 Stafford Co., Va (up in northern Virginia on the Potomac River).
There is a William Boling on the 1755 Granville Co., NC Tax List.
Do you know if this is the William born in 1733 Stafford?

November 6, 2005 at 6:42 am #17370Hi Bill,
Great to hear from you again! The William Bolin on the 1755 Tax list could very well be the same one that was born in 1733. I have hardly any info on him. I don’t know who his wife was or who his children were. I’m a member of the Boling Y-DNA Group 6 research group and it’s our belief that the NC Boling line which came from VA may have been this William Boling line. The DNA from Group 6 represents different Boling lines. If you’d like to join us, I’d love to have you join us so you can look around and see what we are up to. Let me know and I’ll get it cleared through Martin Boling, one of the site administrators.
