April 15, 2008 at 6:22 am #30594You may want to check out some of the Catawba stuff…Brown is a very big name among the Catawba.

April 15, 2008 at 6:22 am #34430I am looking for any info on the Browns that came out of Ohio
April 15, 2008 at 6:22 am #34432Steve B, as I mentioned my David Erasmus Brown married Mary B Hixson in Guernsey OH. They came to MO and had a family. A daughter Catheryn(in) married Harvey Woolery. This is my Grandpa Woolery’s Grandparents. They moved into the Osage river area near/between Warsaw and Camdenton MO. David moved around alot and seemed to allign himself with Cherokee people. He was a signer of the 1895 Cherokee constitution at Moberly MO. Why it happened there I have no idea. He also was in a Cherokee Civil War unit here in MO.
Can I help anymore than that?
April 15, 2008 at 6:22 am #34445Have you heard of a Olie Jackson Brown that moved to Nashville Tn from ohio
April 15, 2008 at 6:22 am #34451No, sorry I don’t know more than this about this part of the family. I know of David here in MO and on to OK but not earlier. I have info that david was a Dr. and served as an area Judge, which generally means a County Commissioner, and served in the war here in MO both for the Cherokee and the State Militia.
April 15, 2008 at 6:22 am #34479Bob; I’m just curious. I’ve understood that there is isn’t any evidence at all that the “1895 Cherokee Constitution of Moberly, MO” was real. My great, great grandfather, John Harvey Neal, was listed also.
Dan.
April 15, 2008 at 6:22 am #34525I once read a copy of this document. My Dad and I read it and then noticed his G(…)Grandpa’s name listed. The hand writing did seem very similar to some other documents Dad had, but are now missing. Red Bird Smith another distant Cuzn of ours was also listed on this document.

I hope you please see my post. I am looking for my 4th great grandmother from Ohio. She was born about 1800-01. Her name is not very clear on their marriage certf. It is ether a Missouir,Issaru P or A Brown married to a Daniel Lightfoot on the 27 DEC 1827 in Wayne County Ohio. The funny thing about that is on the 21st of Decemeber 1827 there is a J. Har Brown married to a Daniel Lightfoot. I was told that A. We are related to a John Genat/Jenat/Ganet Brown- usually went by J.G. Brown. ( He was Catawba) and B. We do have slaves in our family. Not sure which line.
I dont know what kind of name that is that she has. Their penmanship was very sloppy and they did not know how to spell very well. They may have just sounded it out.
I seen documents that Cherokee was spelled Charawkee and Catawba was cowtahbwa.
So, its hard to figure out their lingo.
