Hello
I am researching a nancy gibson born 1805 in hancock tn her father is suppose to be a charles gibson sr. her siblings are as follows
1-) charles gibson jr born abt 1809 married woman named oney
2-) Louvisa Levicy Gibson born 1817 married John Rance Bolen in hawkins tn
3-) Guilford Gibson 1833 married Lourinda Lora A Moore (nancy’s daughter)
4-) James Gibson born 1836
5-) Houston Gibson 1837 married martha elizabeth moore (nancys daughter who i am a descendant of)
6-) Charlotte Gibson 1841
I have found in other peoples research that charles Gibson sr who is suppose to be the father of these children is the same as the charles gibson who filed the war pension app in 1839 at the age of 92. Apparently that probably is not possible being that he would be a very old man by the time all of the children were born. I think that there is a charles between the charles sr and the charles jr born 1809 but i have not found anything to prove it. Nancy married a james rutherford moore. Does anyone know anything about these people that could help me figure this thing out
thanks
bparris
July 27, 2007 at 5:46 pm #27641If Charles Sr was 92 in 1839, then he is not the same person as the Charles “Gipson” Sr, 70 to 79 yrs old in 1840 Hawkins Co., living next door to Charles “Gipson” Jr, 30 to 39 yrs old – or Charles Sr’s age is misstated, an equal possibility. I think the Charles listed in 1840 as “Sr” is actually a “Jr” and the Charles Jr is a “III”.
The oldest female, probably his wife, in the 1840 household of Charles Sr is 60 to 69 yrs old, young enough at the time to be the mother of Charles Jr (or the 3rd).
Charles “Jr” had a son named Houston, b.abt. 1836, per the 1850 Hancock Census.
July 27, 2007 at 5:46 pm #27642HELLO BILL,
That was exactly what i was thinking that there had to be three charles gibsons. Do you know anything about the middle charles having a daughter named nancy?
July 27, 2007 at 5:46 pm #27646I have ‘seen’ this info on Nancy being the dau of Charles before, but I don’t recall where, altho it may be posted on this forum.
As to an earlier Charles, there is one. The allied families of Bowling/Bolling, Bunch, Collins, Gibson/Gipson, Ridley/Riddle and some others, moved to old Granville Co., NC, where they are listed on the 1750 Granville Co., NC Tax List.
Thomas Gibson is listed with two tithables, CHARLES and George Gibson.
On the 1755 Orange Co., NC Tax List, Charles Gibson is tithed, among this same group of families. These are the same families who after 1760 moved thru Virginia, back into western NC in the 1780s (1790 Wilkes & 1800 Ashe Co, NC census) and moved about 1802-1804 into northeastern Tenn’s Hancock, Hawkins and Claiborne county areas. When you don’t find them there, look for them in the adjoining Va and Ky counties.
An earlier post “Flatt River area” should be interesting….
