My name is Marty. I am looking for information on my great great grandmother, Rebecca Jane Cole Brittain who is buried in Pulaski KY. An earlier post showed that it was a Mary Jane Cole who was married to William Brittain. It was Rebecca. Her daughter, Araminta, was my great grandmother, her daughter Phoeba Grace Eads, was my grandmother. Her son James Dankert Skagen, was my father. I never was told anything by my father. We lived in TN in a very white neighborhood. (KKK and all that). I have been trying for years to trace Rebecca mother Eliza. Some accounts say that Eliza was married to John Jack Cole and other accounts say that she was married to Hawkins Bowman. I would appreciate any information. I also have some info from my Uncle Paul, Phoeba’s brother, who died in OK in the 90’s. I am still in contact with his daughter in OK.

I think I might be able to help. Rebecca was also my grt, grt, grand mother. Hawk Bowman had a daughter named Elizabeth, this was our granny. This was by a previous marriage before Nancy Barbour. Hawk and Nancy had a daughter named Eliza (to me this is the same name). Eliza appears in the 1850 census in Hawks Bowman household 8 yrs old. Then in 1860 she is no longer there but appears in John Jack Cole’s residence 18 years old. We have always got the two mixed up. I think it was the 1860 census that John Jack Cole had Eliza listed in his household and living next door our Granny Elizabeth was living with her daughter Rebecca Jane with a William Jones. I may have other information you might need. I need to find out who Hawk married the first time. I am on the trail but it is slow.
