Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
I am the Great Granddaughter of Sussie Collins born 1900 died 1992. Grandma Susie was married to Hugh Curtis of which they had several children and lived south of Mammoth Springs along the Spring River. children are: Fletcher 1922, Clara 1924, Edd 1926, Lenora 1929, Omer 1933. I am Omers granddaughter by his only son Graydon. Susie was the daughter of Aaron Thomas Collins 1874 and Mandy Collins 1870. Aaron son of David Collins 1835 married to Martha Collins 1843. Mandy daughter of David H Collins 1850 (Son of Isaiah Zerry Collins) and Nancy Collins 1853. I am looking for the documents that everyone is talking about that ties this family to the Saponi and Cherokee? Anyone have that info.
Jennifer
I don’t have Collins in my line but Brenda Collins-Dillon did some great research at http://www.saponitown.com/brenda-collins-dillon/index.htm. Scott Collins also has a Saponi Descendants Association website.
The documents most people use to trace their lines are marriage and birth records, census information, land deeds, wills, tax documents, military documents etc. There is nothing like the Dawes Roll for Saponi that I’m aware of.
Thank you MarcSnelling!!!!! That is some great reading.
