My grandmother’s name was Vina Croney, her father’s name was Wash Croney. She said she was blackfoot Indian. She was from the Dora, Missouri area. Are their some Saponi’s names Croney?
July 5, 2005 at 7:14 pm #15440Hi Jeff, Welcome,
I haven’t heard of CRONEY but I have a couple questions I hope you can answer.
Is Vina’s full name Melvina?
Do you know her mother Margaret’s maiden name?
Was George Washington (“Wash”) Croney’s mother Abigail’s maiden name COLLINS?

July 5, 2005 at 7:14 pm #15449Wash CRONEY’s wife Margaret J.’s maiden name was also CRONEY.
They appear to be cousins, Margaret being the dau of Francis Marion CRONEY, b.abt 1829 Georgia, and Alice Elizabeth WALLEN/Wallin/Walling, b.abt 1853 Tenn., whose parents were John WALLING, b.abt 1808 Scott Co., Va, and Margaret CONLEY.
Wash’s father John David CRONEY’s (b. 1 Oct 1847 Walker Co., Ala.) wife’s name was Abigal PARSONS, b.abt 1846/7 in Missouri with both parents born in Indiana. (In 1880 Douglas Co., Mo., John CRONEY’s family lived next door to Tipton COLLINS, b.1833 Indiana, and Tipton’s father old Sol COLLINS, b.abt 1787 NC, therefore my question about Abigal being a Collins.)
John David CRONEY’s parents were Jonathan CRONEY, b.abt 1783 SC (probably Lexington County) and Mary Ann CHAMBERS, b.abt 1822 Georgia., who marr’d 7 May 1836 in Walker Co., Ala.
Jonathan appears to be Francis Marion Croney’s uncle or cousin, and lived next door to each other in 1850 Walker Co., Ala.
CHAMBERS, WALLEN and COLLINS people from certain areas and time periods figure within various mixed-Indian communities.
I’ll post the back-up documentation of census and marr. records soon.
