Dr. Blair Rudes, a linguistics professor who helped to restore the Tuscarora and NC/VA Algonquin languages, died unexpectly from a heart attack. A memorial service for him was held today.

This is a terrible loss. He was most recently working to revive the Catawba language, which would have been a wonderful contribution for us here.
Oh. Dang.
That would explain why he hadn’t responded to my most recent e-mail. He always responded promptly.
He was helping me with Tutelo. This is a definite setback.
Oh, nooooo. Very sad news. What a tremendous loss. Am grateful to him for the work he did.
His was the best part of “The New World” (movie).

I am sorry to hear this, as it is sad when someone passes on…and sadder still when they have contributed to reuniting the past with the present and the future..:( I pray there is someone who will pick up where he left off…may he rest in peace.

I should also mention that its my belief he not only worked on native languages out of his own interest, but also because he truly wanted to help eastern native peoples reclaim a part of our heritage.
Tragic… so tragic indeed.
