I am descended from George Spargo Jr., who was born in New Jersey in about 1789, and married a Native American woman (also my ancestor) at some point along his path from Jersey to Trumbull County, Ohio. Their son Stephen (my great-great-great-grandfather) was born in 1810 in Trumbull County, Ohio. It seems likely that Mrs. Spargo died there, as we know that George had remarried by 1817. George and his second wife (Elizabeth) died in Ellenboro, Wisconsin in 1869.
I have never truly expected to know more than that about my great-great-great-great-grandmother, but today I found Woodsrunner’s thread:

Pretty exciting to me. But to further compicate things, another poster on another site refers to her as having been Seneca.
Anyone’s thoughts, suggestions, and/or hard information would be gratefully accepted!
Really good to be here, by the way.

Thanks for resurrecting this thread.
You might want to look in Greene Co., Penn, where George Spargo Sr’s family was in 1800.
In 1840, George Jr appears to be in Pike Co., Illinois, and there are a couple Forum members whose ancestors passed thru/settled in S.W. Wisconsin, where his family was in 1850.

My people, according to the previous post, were near your Spargo’s in PA. Ellenboro, WI is also not far from my folks in NE IA. They arrived there from around 1840 to 1852, when my ancestor with the Blackfoot ID arrived.
The Seneca/Blackfoot combination is not incompatible nor surprising. Some of my Green relatives who marry into the family with the Blackfoot ID in Iowa were friends with the Van Meter family. Van Meter married the sister to Joseph Brandt and lived with two of Brandt’s brothers. They lived in northern Ohio with the Senecas of the Sandusky.
Also, in a book published by the step-grandson of my Blackfoot ggggrandmother, he states that the Indians near Pittsburgh were Cornplanter Seneca. My Blackfoot ancestor was from near Pittsburgh.
Your email, by the way, is very interesting to me. Your people were near mine in PA, OH, and WI, excluding Pike County, although, there are Masons, a name that intermarries with mine, buried in the Blackfoot cemetery there. There are no rumors of NA in the family that were in Portage County, OH, but I am waiting for DNA results. And I too, have struggled with the Blackfoot ID but the book reporting the NA as Cornplanter Seneca.
In addition, lately, some of us have tried to connect DE (or in your case, New Jersey) with Pike County, IN. Your family is one of those with that connection. Very interesting!
