Hi everyone,
I am searching for information on my Jones side of the family that was in the Halifax Co. N.C. area in the Mid 1700’s. My 5th Grt Grandfather was John Jones Born 1745 in N.C. His father was Abraham Jones B. 1720 Amelia, VA. and his Mother is Unknown(believed to be Native American). Abraham’s 2nd wife was Martha Jones. John’s siblings were Abraham Jones B.1749 in Amelia, VA; James Jones B. 1752 Halifax, N.C.; William Jones B. 1752 Halifax, N.C.; Batt Jones B. 1754 Edgecombe, N.C.; Seaborn Jones B. 1759 Halifax, N.C.; Sara Ann Jones B. 1763 Halifax, N.C. and Thomas Jones B. 1766 Halifax, N.C. John’s Grandfather and Grandmother were Abraham Jones B. 1690 Henrico, VA and Sarah Batte(I believe she was French). John moved to GA and died there in 1787 in Effingham Co. GA. His wife was Mary Powell Brown and they married in 1769 in St Mathews Parrish, GA. From research I know that the Saponi were and still are in Halifax Co. N.C. and at one time in Amelia, VA. Does anyone have any information on the Jones’ in Halifax Co. N.C. that might help me connect them to the Saponi? Thank You.
Abraham Jones, b.1720, is likely to have been born in Prince George Co., Va, before part of it became Amelia Co in 1735.
Some of the JONES in Pr. Geo. Co owned Indian slaves.

Mr Childs, Thanks for the information and website. This is a great website. I might even be able to find other ancestors on this site. It does look like some of these Jones’ are my ancestors. On the website it has listed:

Abraham Jones II, Martha Jones, John Jones, Sarah -,
Is this Sarah, John’s wife or is it his mother? From research, I know that Abrahams second wife was Martha Jones but she was not John’s mother. Also from information that I found, I know that John was married twice. His second wife I know was Mary Powell Brown but I do not know his first wife’s name. If you could help me in anyway with these questions, I would greatly appreciate it. Do you have any other information on these Jones families? Also, was the Batte’s French? Thanks Again.
