Thanks for letting me join the group. I am looking for other Poythress researchers.
I am descendant of Benjamin Poythress(1808-1865) who married Susan Williams.
Then his son George Alexander Poythress (1849-aft 1900) who married Ellan M Davis.
Their daughter Alice Magnolia Poythress (1886-1922) who married Rupert Cable.
I believe that this line has some connection with Native Americans, however with the lost of court records I am stuck at Benjamin.
I have a couple of pictures to post that lead my to think this family has some Native blood.

The Poythress surname is among the Pocahontas descendants. However, they were married into the line and not Native Americans. It’s complicated…ha ha. It’s in the Bolling descendant line. One Bolling Line is a descendant of Pocahontas and the other is a white line by a second wife – referred to as the White Bollings and the Red Bollings for that reason. The Poythress surname is a name married into the White Bolling Line. This is not to say that your Poythress is not Native American. I just recognized the name and thought this might help you in some way. Clydene
September 24, 2009 at 12:33 pm #34561Thank you for your response. I understand that my line may or may not be from the Pocahontas line. I thought there may be a connection with the Melungons. I have no proof, just trying to see if anyone eles has a connection to my line.
If you look at my pictures, I have a gr-great Aunt Mary Poythress and she has Native American features. I thought that I may have a connection with Native Americans, but of course it would not be the first time I was wrong. LOL!
