Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Bill and all you genealogy hunters,
I need some help locating this book…I managed to have my library have copies sent from another library in Mich. The name of the book is Looking Back One Hundred Years, A Brief Story Of Buchanan County And Its People, by Hannibal Albert Compton.
My ggggrandfather George and family is written of extensively in this work. The family lived in Buchanan (formerly Tazewell) for many years. I would appreciate any help in finding this book.:)

Hey Shirley,
What was George’s last name?
Maybe the Buchanan library would have the book?

Hi Beeleaf,
George Gibson was my ggggrandfather, moved from Floyd, KY to Tazewell (Buchanan), VA. mid-1800’s. He was a preacher and very well known, so I have been told. I have found the book at a couple of college libraries, but it is reference only (they don’t allow one to check it out). The library did send a few pages of the book.
One cool story: The book said when he (George Gibson), he was buried next to a big oak, which remained for many years, until the new road system came in…so the tree is gone…However, the book eluded to him still buried under the new road.
