Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Francis Marion Millican b. October 6, 1832 either in TN or AL d. December 18, 1907 Tarrant County, TX.
His mother was Rebekkah Millican or Rebekkah Marion Millican of TN.
She was either in Coffee or Franklin county in 1840 I think. Is there a census for 1820 and 1830 for that area of Tennessee?
I am trying to find her husband or father to Francis Marion Millican.
Also is it possible that Rebekkah’s maiden name was Marion?
Rebekkah moves herself and Francis to Jackson County, AL then to Tishimingo County, MS. Then Francis moves on to Tarrant, TX.
You might want to look at TnGenWeb or some site like that and see when the various counties were formed. Coffee County is later than 1830, I believe, maybe 1836. Several other counties around there (Marshall, Moore, Cannon, DeKalb, etc.) were formed later than the censuses you mentioned. Older counties would include Rutherford, Lincoln, Bedford, Franklin, and Warren. Before about 1806 the Duck River Valley (or anyplace in TN south of it) was not lawfully occupied by people with courthouses and censuses.
Whether the censuses etc. have actually survived is a different question, I’m no authority on that. Just want to help you avoid looking for something that couldn’t exist.
