The annual Occoneechee State Park Native American Heritage Festival is this Saturday, May 9th. A flyer may be downloaded here, http://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state_parks/documents/occnativefest.pdf
We will have a table with the banner “Eastern Siouan / Eastern Blackfoot Descendant’s Association.” If you come, please stop and say hello. We will have information about upcoming events. Or feel welcome to hang with us and help us make a strong presence.
After the pow wow, we have festivities planned for North Bend Park, a short distance away. We will be at campsite 118, if you would care to attend, let us know at the pow wow so that we can add you to the guest list left at the campground’s front gate. Weather permitting, we will be singing and dancing authentic Tutelo songs and enjoy some private ceremony at this very secluded spot at the water’s edge. The spirit is always very strong there, our time there, always very special.
We are planning to be at the pow wow…with most of our kids, too. And as far as I know, Beeleaf and Cindi will be there, too. So should make for a special day in the circle….looking forward to seeing everyone.

Yes Timmy and I will be at the OSP Native American Heritage Festival. We will be camping at OSP. Beeleaf and Sandy will also be there. They also are camping at OSP. I would love to be included in the festivities at North Bend Park. I’m not familiar with OSP, do the gates close at sunset? I know at Hanging Rock here in NC they do and you can’t get in after they close. So my question is if the gates close at OSP how do we get to back to our campsite. I have never experienced anything outside of what you see at the Pow Wows, so I excited about this celebration.
We’ll have to check on when the gates close. At North Bend I believe it’s 11. You can get out after that, but not in. We’ll just have to be sure we get going early enough.
On the website, it states 10:00 p.m. and I know the last time we were up there, we got lost on the way out and made a wrong turn. Well, they pulled us over to the side at the gate and chastised us for being late leaving and that we wouldn’t be allowed back in. We made sure they understood that we were trying to leave and go home. Ah, the memories…….remember, Bee??
It was definitely a special day at the pow wow and good to see so many of our folks there. Even though it was hot, the dancing was good. Hope nobody got blown away by the storm later. Shirley, you will have to get in the circle next time…Jade, hope you are feeling better…..Bee, your dancing was awesome……Cindi, hope our remembrance of your dad will help you to heal. Linda and Felicia, always good to see you….sorry we didn’t make it to the after party, but, we had already made plans with family.

Anyway, I agree. Good powwow. Competition ain’t my thang, either..too old for it, anyway. :~D
