I am new to the site.I married in to the pettiford family. i will list what i know about the pettiford/bass family. I will start with
my childrens 13th gg parents William Basse born abt. 1522 and Mary Carkin
12th gg parents Humphrey Bass born abt. 1564 and mary buscher
11th ggparents Nathaniel bass born abt. 1589 and mary jordan
10th ggparents Edward bass born abt. 1622 and Mary Tucker (i would like to learn more about her)
I don’t know anything about their 9th ggparents

7th ggparents Patience bass born abt1726 and Philip Pettiford born abt. 1754 in N.C.he died 13 April 1825 in Fayetteville N.C. were he went to file the papers to draw his Revolutionary war pension. this statement comes from a letter his great-granddaughter Narcissa Pettiford-Rattley wrote on june28 1893.

4th ggparents John (jack) Artist Pettiford born abt. 1840 in NC died 17 june 1896 in Plymouth North Carolina and Roberta Walker -Mills -Pettiford they were married on 27 nov1860 warren county NC Roberta was born about dec 1844 in NC. she was listed as mulatto on all census (she was indian ) when she died on her death certificate she is listed as black her father was robert walker her mother is unknown i will upload pic of her .i would like to learn more about her.

This is the story I was told by a family member . Anna Bradby and her brother Edward Bradby Pamunkey Indians married in to the same African American family. Anna Bradby was said to be grand, g-grand or gg-grandmother to vivian smith I can not find the connection. Vivian’s parents were Isham Smith and Florence Green of Charles city Va they were married 09/06/1917
Isham’s parents were Frank Smith jr. and Susan A. Charles they were married on 02-07-1884 in Charles city Frank was 26 years old and Susan was 10 years old!!!
Florence’s parents were Bolla and Anna Green

Could someone please tell me if I finally found my kids 9th greatgrand parents.The john bass who was married to love harris, were his parents William bass and sarah ann lovina. The names are used over and over in each generation I am still kind of new at this so I get a little confused. Thank you.

Our families are related through the 9 children of Solomon and Charity Bibby. Of Solomon’s daughters Mary married Jesse Rattley, Elizabeth married my Ruffin Stewart, and Sophia married Robert Mitchell. I’ve sent an email to a distant cousin from the Gillie Pettiford line and I hope we can all learn more.
My grandmother’s middle name is Lovinia/ Louvinia, and yes we have quite a few. Stay on it!

I am related to a lot of Pettifords. They are all out of Orange, Person, and Durham Counties. My gg grandfather David Harris married a Bass. Her last name was Parrish but her mother was a Bass. There are a lot of Bass and Pettiford families that still live in that area today. I know they claim Native ancestry. Although this goes against what a certain tribe in that area has to say. They told me there were only 5 native families that lived in that area. LOL…. So untrue. But in due season the truth will come to light.
