I am looking for information pertaining to the family of Robert W. Putney. He was born June 1839 in Buckingham Co. VA. He married Martha(no last name). Robert Putney served in the 13 west Virginia Infantry, Co K, Union Army. He is now buried in the Springfield MO National Cemetery.
Robert is the start of my line and I have no other info of this family. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I think you may have already found Isaac Putney and Nancy Wilson? At least one of the trees on Ancestry shows Martha Putney as Martha nee Wooten. That is another of my surnames out of Va. My Martha Wooten is daughter of a Samuel and an unknown mother. My Martha was born in Mecklenburg co Va C1754 (need to look) as I do have exact date but not in my head. There could be a Wooten connection there. Ancestry was showing Robert W Putney or Robert Wilson Putney. Ring any bells? Saj
I would imagine that Roberts Martha would be younger than being born in 1754. Your Martha born in 1754 could be Roberts Marhtas Mom. the Wooten is possible, Thanks.

My GGGrandpa Putneys name was Robert Wilson Putney. Middle name was for his Moms family, the Wilsons.
Hey Cuz’, saj, Thanks. How does this family fit into the Tribal picture, if any? Grandma had said that when she was very young whe was dressed NDN but when she was sent to Catholic School she was not allowed to talk , talk about, dress or even have her long braided hair. She was quite negative about being NDN. Her Father was Putney and her Mom was McWilliams, through the Weston family.
Any new Ideas. I have Cuz’s in OK who may really be interested in new info.

I don’t have much info on my Wooten lineage. Martha married Josiah Tanner in Mecklenburg Va and they moved c1779 to the French Broad River near Cherokee Ford. I just read where there are or were Wooten names among the Pee Dee Indians…Martha had a brother John. I have no info on him. But at least Martha was in SC and then they came into Ky very early. 1780’s. Josiah died and Martha remarried Abraham Lemaster. And he is related to the Lemaster’s of Johnson co Ky. Martha came into Indiana with her daughter Keziah Dawson’s children as Dan and Keziah (Tanner) Dawson died early. There was a Lemaster settlement which I mentioned in a way earlier post because they were connected to the Blackfoot church in Indiana. This Putney info may help you out some. Isaac Bryant Putney’s Mom was a Bryant. Would you maybe have some info on the Bryant’s or the Wilson’s?

Bob, I edited my surnames list. I thought I had Bryant and found out she was Richard Elkins’ 2nd wife and I am descended thru his 1st wife Mary Williams. I know the Bryants are tied to the Gallops. Beeleaf may have some info on the Bryants as I know she is related. Also, I still will consider you a cuz cause as many diff ancestors of mixed Indian blood and similar locations where they were and moved around to and from~no doubt there would be some family ties~ Good Luck and Happy Hunting~Greydove:)
