Ridgetop Band of Shawnee was formed last week at our first Council Meeting.
http://www.ridgetopshawnee.com
We have a solid base and are populating Clans.
The Ridgetop Band of Shawnee and their Brother organization the Kentucky Native American Indian Council “KNAIC” are gearing up and recruiting for enrollment.
We are standing on the belief that the Cumberland Gap region was called home and held as a safe haven for MANY Mixed blood and Full Blood Indian people. We have an 18 KY,TN,VA County region. We should have over 40 surnames that will be documented Native Americans. Many called themselves Cherokee, but as we all know Saponi probably makes up the largest origin of Native Blood in this region. All us so called Melungeon’s are waking up and calling for our true roots.
I was proud to be called Melungeon for many years and never questioned my family’s Black Dutch theories. We are Indian people and it has been proved time and time again. We call ourselves Shawnee because THIS IS Shawnee land and many that make up the Council ARE ENROLLED Shawnee. We believe in the Shawnee way.
We have many Indian people living in this region, we want all of them to examine their past. Most might be all Cherokee now, but 250 years ago they were; Saponi, Chowan (Chowanoc), Cheraw (Merged with Saponi) , Coree, Eno (Merged with Saponi), Nottaway, Tuscarora. And many MOVED here and thrive here. Now it is time to get organized.
The main focus of the Ridgetop Band of Shawnee is to give away scholarships to Indian people that are members of the Band. We hope to award at least $20,000 in scholarships to members next year. We are in the business of charity NOT welfare. We will send our children to school, we will give them the chances we did not have. Enough said.
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27129I have two questions Rebelredsun;
1) I did not see a surname list for the 20. Help please?
2) I can show that my paternal line migrated way before 1850 to a county listed from VA. I’m not sure I can show a “migration” of others as they are already in the area prior to 1850. Does it make a difference where they migrated from?
Thanks, Dan
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27135I apologize for that,
The 20 surnames was a good guess starting point. We are documenting all we can. I hope it turns out to be 40+ surnames.
So far
Sizemore
Fields
Bennett
Spurlock
King
Bowman
Cole
Gilbert
Williams
Clarkston
Collins
Brock
Goins
Bunch
Crider
Bolling
And many more, thins is what I can remember. All of these people are either Documented or are in process.
The Council is trying to decide the time line. 1780-18??
No it does not matter where they came from.
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27142Thank You! I see I am not on this particular list – but appreciate the answers just the same.
And best wishes in this … “venture”.
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27150Like I said it was off the top of my head. “Adams” is on the list, that I am certain about.
All of our Genealogical information (excluding living people) will published for all to see and hopefully it helps someone else find their ancestors.

June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27154You’re right on. I envision all of the grandfathers and grandmothers … although at peace, watching and waiting to be brought back home to their families for our sake … and not just the ancestors that are Red – but all that have been displaced. Thanks for your interest and your help.
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27190Well, you have my attention.
I think most of my family stayed in Patrick & Henry County VA & bordering counties. But some of them did migrate to some of the counties you mention. Interesting.
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27198It is time to gather our people. We have been bombarded by theories of lost colonies and ship wrecked Portuguese sailors but it is rare to find someone celebrating their Native blood. I think they are people that descend from a group of people that lived in these hills that can not be explained, but not every family with dark skin. The majority of us are Indian that are called Melungeon. Don’t get me wrong I consider DR. Brent Kennedy (Melungeon researcher) a friend and we still need to pray for him.
My Grandfather hated the fact that we are of Native American Blood, he would NOT speak of it at ANY time. All he would say is “boy we are Black Dutch so leave it alone”. We know it is time to open the box and celebrate who we are. I am lucky to have found multiple Native American bloodlines.
We have some good people in this thing and our business is charity. We want our people and our region recognized and we want to better the lives of our people.
Just a thought…

June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27199It is a very wide thought.
And a very important one … in my humble opinion.
And one I happen to share – because something of the same nature is printed on the inside wall of my cave-skull – I read it almost daily when I close my eyes and look inside … and yet, I am too new to know but too convinced to doubt.

Here is the Kentucky Native American Data Bank. Most everyone is documented.

No Living individuals please.
The KNADB tries hard to verify everything. Some things may slip through, ONE volunteer! I am capable of making mistakes. If you see any post them here if you want and I will verify and fix it.
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27205Mary “Polly” Daniel & George Gibson looks familiar. I think that may be Shirley’s line.
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27206… and yet, I am too new to know but too convinced to doubt.
I like that, Dan!
Doubt still creeps in for me, but it’s mine, not theirs. ;~)
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27208There is a unity coming, Beeleaf. I don’t know when it will arrive – but many are already hearing the call. Some will ignore it – “a bit of undigested beef”, Some are heeding but still blind. Some are half-blind but still coming. Some have eyes wide-open but hearts not right just yet … or heads not right just yet. Some are here. Some are waiting for us. A good time to learn. A good time to teach. A good time to love.
Tick-Tock. Tick-Tock.
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27210The time for gathering is a widespread belief. It transcends cultural divides and I believe with all my heart that this time is near.
We can not control when we will be called. It is not up to us, it is up to the Grandfather and the Grandmother. Our Creator.
Right now if you believe you are being called, be sure, listen to your dreams and the Creator will guide you down the Red Road.
The New Testament “says have faith as a child”. I do have blind faith, to the Creator not man.
So I encourage everyone to look at the (hopefully) thousands of names that will be in the KNABD. It is a service, before you will receive one thing you have to give first. The Chicken or the Egg? What came first, giving or taking? Just trying to do a little giving today.
June 23, 2007 at 3:15 pm #27253Thank you, William!
