Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
I tried to send this earlier, but the full URL (directly to the article) wouldn’t link.
Article can be found at http://www.dailyprogress.com
At the search screen type in “sign to mark monacan village”,today it’s the 3rd item down in the search results.
Basicly, there will be an historic marker on US
29 several miles north of Charlottesville,VA where
29 crosses the Rivanna River,South Fork to note the town of Monasukapanough,a Monacan/Saponi
settlement.Said sign is very close to the former
location of Monasukapanough.

Thank you for this information. I was just asking my husband to take a quick family trip. This would be great since we both have family in “Jefferson country”. Although, I was blasted by his mom during the recent holidays for starting up talk about having NA ancestry. I’d love to see it.
By the way, is anyone going to see the movie The Native Americans? Or are people on this forum generally boycotting it? I can’t remember who it was, but I heard that a memeber (or perhaps it was a chief) of a Virginia tribe was a the red carpet opening of the movie in Hollywood.

Correction. The Hollywood film about the settlement at Jamestown and Pocahontas and John Smith is called The New World and it comes out this month. I just wondered what people thought about it and what, if any, controversy it will stir.
