Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Has anyone encountered the name “spice; Spicey or Spica, in any of thier family histories.
This name appears several times in records re. east Tn, Ky and NC, Va area names, but where and when does it come from!
Tom,
I’d say it’s ‘curiouser & curiouser’ – I did a random 1850 census record search on SPICE as a surname and found them scattered all over the place and surprisingly from a multitude of european countries.
Then I did a wide-search on the first name ‘Spice’ / Spicey (any surname) , and found them also all over the U.S. but one caught my eye – a 17 yr old female, b.Ind, Spice Hardin in 1850 Charleston, Clark Co., (southern) Ind.
go figure the odds on the coincidence for that time and area.
She’s with Alice Hardin, 19, b. Ind., living in John Parker’s Hotel in Charleston, so they’re both about 10 yrs older, but it sure does make the red/blue lights flash in our head.
Bill
hey Bill thanx for that, Iam begining to think that there is some sort of core that many of these people are basing names etc on. Some times it just gets wierd!, no doubt they are sitting with a grin!
