I have a (?). What does the term Mustees, refer to.
Bob
Mustee, sometimes mestee, is a person of known mixed Indian and other ancestry. The “other” could be of African or European descent. The term isn’t really used in modern times, but appears in a lot of the early records that are quoted at Steven Pony Hill’s and other sites.
In Spanish speaking Latin America, the term is Mestizo, which is still in current usage. The French term, also in use today in Canada and some northern U.S. states, is Metis. Mustee and mestee appear to be corruptions of one or the other of these two words.
