August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #31945Hi Starr. Welcome!
Collins in Magoffin Co, KY is all that is familiar to me. Making no promises, but that might be a place to start looking.
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #31947Thanks and hello to you, I have tried that one, But we all know that Big Brick Wall!
I have also heard the name Mercky when it comes to my elusive Ggrandmother. But I will try again Thanks!
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #31985Welcome to SaponiTown starr. You’ll enjoy the company here while learning a great deal. I have enjoyed just reading the entries and meeting many of my long lost Cuzns.
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #31987Thank You, I have been reading them also, learned a few things, got alot of leads.
Thank you for answering.
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #31990Welcome, Starr….the best place to start is searching the genealogy forum for any surnames that you have. Brenda Collins put up a lot of information before she died. What types of locations do you have for these folks? Were they all in KY and Ohio? We will try to help as much as we can. Sometimes it takes the help of the ancestors to break through those brick walls….and a lot of perseverance.
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #31992Starr, do you know where your Charlie Cromwell was from, and whether he may have been a jr?
Search of FTM marriage index (has KY, OH, IL, etc.) only turned up one match. (Might have been like some of mine, though…no marriage record to be found.) Could be a relative?
Charles Cornwell md Patsy Tipton June 18, 1824 Jefferson Co, KY
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #31994I have read alot of Brenda’s work and she did put out Alot that helped me,
These names are everywhere on here. Cornwell is Va, Oh, Ky, Ind.
Gipson, Va, Oh, Ky, NC .
I did find out Charley Cornwells father is Thompson Cornwell his mother was Betsey Thornton him of Fauquier Co, Va no listing for her.
I would LOVE to find America Collins. I have nothing about her .
And would like to say you guy’s are wonderful. Thanks for all the help and leads.
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #32001Starr,
Do you recognize the names of a Clarinda Freeland or a Phoebe Gregg? I found an obituary of a Mrs. America Cornwell in Ohio from 1963. Also I think your Cornwell line is linked to Cornwell’s in Tn that married into my Allen lines. Saj
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #32002I don’t know if you got my e-mail or not , but, yes I do reconize the names as my grandfathers sisters. I don’t know much about the Cornwell’s but am learning more all the time.
Is this America married to or widow of Boyd , Son would be William.
Thank you So very much, I got overly excited and just started e-mailing. Been looking for her only in Ky. Boyd died in Alger ,Ohio and we thought she went back to Ky.
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #32004Starr,
I haven’t checked my e-mail yet but here goes……..
I found the Obit. on Ancestry but I can’t copy. From Feb.5, 1963 in the Lima News….Alger is in Hardin co Ohio.
Alger-Mrs. America Cornwell, 82, Rt 1, Alger died Monday at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefountaine. She was born Jan. 18 1881 to J. A. and Clarinda (Armstrong) Collins. She is survived by a son William of Belle Center, Two daughters, Clarinda Freeland of Alger and Phoebe Gregg of Russel Point, 19 grandchildren, 35 gr-grandchildren, 2 brothers Samuel Collins of Alger and Lindsey of Sassafras Ky. A Sister Minnie Niece or Yerker Ky. Funeral services will be at Hanson Fun. Home in Alger. Rev Noland Bogart will conduct the service and burial will be in Preston Cemetery in Alger.
I have found Lindsey as Linzy Collins married to Mollie Kilgore in Magoffin co Ky on 3-5-1905 at the home of Isac Back witnessed by Cyntha Back and Nancy Collins. He Also had a son Boyd per 1920 Breathitt co ky census. Cont.’d
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #32005In the 1920 Breathitt co Ky census is Linzy Collins 35, Mollie, Boyd 13, Johny 11 an Ella and Mart? Linzy born Aug 12 1887 died Sept 1970 per social security. Sassafras Ky.
We need to see what the initials J. A. Collins stands for married to Clarinda Armstrong. I did find a Clarinda Armstrong born C1862 to Riley Armstrong and Alicey “Dicy” Ritchie. Riley Armstrong son of Andrew Armstrong and Sylvania Mullins. More to come.
Also found in the Lima News Feb. 6 1963 the funeral notice of America Cornwell. Just saying services will be conducted Thursday at Hanson Funeral Home in Alger with burial in Preston Cemetery. More to come…Saj
August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #32006Oh…

August 1, 2008 at 1:14 pm #32008Starr,
I’m just happy to help.
I couldn’t find a listing of persons buried at Preston Cemetery but you’re really close to there!
It’s late for me now, but I’ll post more tomorrow on the Cornwell line. Saj
