Oh the pain, oh the agony, not again!!! Total garbage brought up before here and a constant source of “crap” about my family, and my area of the world. So I will digress and won’t waste any more of my time talking abt. why this is all garbage.
Thanks for the links NC Collins….I’ve seen a few already….I really enjoyed the Lost video…the music was just fab and I even made a few more trips to those cemeteries and contacted the video owner. Best to you in your continued searches!
And Steve…thanks for yet another online rant…perhaps a wee bit more polite reply to a cousin who no doubt was trying to be helpful and informative in his own way…you have well established your “take” on the whole “Melungeon” issue and many of us feel likewise however….a tactful reply or a non-repy would have perhaps been more in order? Some “newbies” here might be taken aback at your brash stance…just a thought. Wishing you well too cousin…take care~~~Laurie

I’ve actually been trying to find a place online that has the episode of “Weird U.S” it’s the first episode where they go to Newman’s ridge. I’ve never watched it but have been trying to find it online.
That Crucial info video I found some usful info out of…I ain’t going to say “oh the Melungeons are Muslims” whole thing though…..I noticed he mentioned Georgia in that speech though….
I’ve gotten into arguments with some “outsiders” before though…one being the PBS channel’s website which has the Jeffries/Jeffers family as a “historic” African American family……and then I got into a heated argument with a person that runs a website about “free african americans” and they have the Jeffries/Jeffers, Johnson, and other families listes……the lady even said Parker Jeffries was African american (even though he won a supreme court case to prove that he was white and native american)…….I accept that there is some African Americans in some of the families however what always gets me mad withthe “outsiders” is that they never want to listed the families as white or native american………these are the same people that will see a census record and say “oh free person orf color”…..or “hey Mulatto”…..these people forget to know that African americans are not the only person of color (anyone not white is a person of color)….they also forget that mullatto is a person of mixed race, if a person has a asian mom and mexican father then that person is a mullatto (would also be a free person of color as well)…….I remember a newspaper or something trying to do a report on one of the families’ grave yards……the story was “historic african american grave yard”…..the family was pissed to say the least….it turns out that the reporter only seen “free person of color” in census records (If I remember right) and then was like oh ok these people was african lol
However…
My more “Tactful” response would be this…

And many of us who are said to be Melungeon from the Highland County area and with family from the Appalachian mountains feel otherwise too Laurie. We know the truth, but (as you have shown above) are asked not to respond. When did it happen that what is good for the goose is no longer allowed for the gander?

If newbees would spend some time studying what info is already posted at Saponitown then they might be amazed by the topics that we have already covered in depth. btw…… we SHOULD NOT allow questionable info to go unchallenged, for in so doing, we lose our credibility.
I did notice however or at least it brought to mind how similar Cherokee clothing is to Mediteranean garments. Just an observation.
Cherokee clothing only took on some of the nuances of other cultures well after the initial invasion periods. Usually for a formal portrait sitting and or social functions with the euro-centric government. Otherwise they dressed either native or like the white frontiersmen and women ….
Arab and middle eastern slavers. Probably picked it up from the various slave markets and/or slaves themselves too. Indians have always been able to adapt very quickly to “new things.” Cherokees more so. They could read, write and speak their language when their white neighbors could verily speak their “english” in very slang terms.
That reminds me. I dislike that picture of Sequoyah that is always shown. The one with the turban and the clay pipe. Early descriptions of the man states he is a half-blood thats looks very full-blood. That man looks like some little old whiteman. Yeah I know it says that Sequoyah sat for this portrait? But????…. maybe the artist needed glasses? :)]
