I’ve met people at VA powwows who claimed to be Appomattoc descendants. They’re still in VA,not sure what county/counties they’re based in.

I’ve never heard of them. Would they be near the town by that name, Appomatox? They could be a group whose families have always lived there, with stories of Indian ancestry, and they went with the logical supposition. Or maybe they have that ID running through their families. Or both.
The Appamattuck are mentioned throughout the book Pocahontas’s People: The Powhatan Indians of Virginia Through Four Centuries by Helen C. Rountree. Page 10 states, “Powhatan claimed to rule nearly all of eastern virginia. He had inherited six chiefdoms (Powhatan, Arrohateck, Appamattuck, Pamunkey, Mattaponi, and Chiskiack) and had then gathered more tribes into his fold, either by warfare or intimidation. He had added the Kecoughtans to his collection in 1597 or 1598; he had exterminated the Chesapeakes, who would not join him, by the summer of 1608 (see chapter 1). By 1608, then, Powhatan had received at least nominal submission, if not full subjection, from all the surviving Algonquian-speaking chiefdoms of the coastal plain”.
I am searching for the modern Appamattuck (also spelled Appomattox, Appomattoc, Appamatuck, Apamatic or other spellings) people.
I went to powhatanmuseum.com to see the listing of Powhatan Confederacy tribes.
That site says that the Appamattoc were based in Chesterfield CO,VA and their town was Bermuda Hundred.
Tried to bring up a homepage for them to see where the tribe is based today;no luck.
I was at a powwow in Virginia 2 or 3 years ago and someone from the Appamattoc tribe spoke over the loud speaker. I tried tracking them down, but no luck. I was curious if we were related.
I have a lot of family from Chesterfield county, going back to Bermuda Hunderd, and knew the Appamattoc were from there. A distant cousin contacted me years back about family from there that they claimed was part Indian, but I lost contact with them.

Wikipedia states, “The Appomattoc (also spelled Appamatuck, Apamatic, and numerous other variants) were a historic tribe of Virginia Indians speaking an Algonquian language, and residing along the lower Appomattox River, in the area of what is now Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Chesterfield and Dinwiddie Counties in present-day southeast Virginia.”
“In 1705, Robert Beverley, Jr. noted that the Appomattoc consisted of no more than seven families, living on the pasture of William Byrd II at Westover Plantation.”
