I have a friend in NC who’s name is Blackwell, would you like me to check with her, to see if there are any links?
Shirley
February 19, 2007 at 9:02 pm #25051Shirley, yes, I’m working on it.
Check with your friend’s Blackwell’s? Sure 🙂 The more sources the better.

February 19, 2007 at 9:02 pm #25052I wandered off from the Blackwells the other day, looking for LOUISA RAMSEY BLACKWELL’s parents. I found DeLAFFAYETTE RAMSEY, born 1785 in Rocky Creek, SC, died Feb 1868 in St. Maries Co. MO, and MARY HUSKEY, born 1782 in Abbeville, SC., died June 1860 Merimac, MO. They married in SC Feb 1807. I found Mary’s parents, who went to MO and settled, but can’t find a single hint of DeLaffayette, or Laffayette, or Lafe. I did find where one researcher thought he might have had a first name of Marcus or Marquis, but nothing to back it up. It’s like he was found under a rock by Little People! It doesn’t help that the Rocky Creek area was apparently flooded to form a lake, or that supposedly a courthouse burned around 1850… I’d just shrug this off and get back on track, except that my ancestors migrated to MO from somewhere around the Smoky Mountains and that they were Scots/Irish.
Anyhow, thanks to everyone who is digging around in my ancestory with me! 🙂

Ok Bill, I will check with her and see what I can find out…

February 19, 2007 at 9:02 pm #25057Well, DeLafayette is not the ‘link’ I was looking for! Plain old Western European DNA, found in the Ramsey DNA Project on rootsweb.com. I’m back on the main road again….

February 19, 2007 at 9:02 pm #25058Hi Dinah and all,
My step grandmother is Virginia Ann Luttrell. Her mothers maiden name was Blackwell. Virginia Luttrell married my great grandfather Sterling Phillip Hamblen after My Grandfathers mother passed.
I have been having a grand time tracking things with a new “cousin” related to the Blackwell and Luttrell family. Shirley Dalton has done a lot of work. There are 26 Blackwells listed on her surname page. Many of our Blackwell folks came from Granville Co. NC, Hanover VA and New Kent VA. I dont think there are any from MO but take a look anyway. Ours ended up in Indian Territory , Oklahoma, and TX mostly.
I know for a fact that Virginia Ann Luttrell Hamblen was NDN. I am old enough to remembler her. She had braids down past her knees with behaviors and looks that match the part. Her children all acknowledge she was Native American. We believe Chickasaw. Anyway the site is http://www.strutton.org. Shirley may or may not answer questions but the site itself is very useful. Shirley and i both know we came from Native American Background but still digging for proof!

Where did you find Thomas Hart Barnes’s family in 1880? Parents are in Dent Co but don’t find him. Could be an index/census error but variations didn’t do it.
