Thanks for your input.
flyingeagletradingpost is the kind of politically biased Orwellian-trype (no typo), european-philosophical bullsh*t we try to avoid on saponitown. Lot’s of ’em have attempted to politicise real issues without success.
May 17, 2007 at 4:14 am #26471Wow Bill, I’ll be googling all night looking up all of those words. Does this mean for a fact that Bush didn’t propose to cut funding to Urban Indian Health Centers
I’d intended to look this up as I receive my health care through one that also serves those other than registered tribal members.
May 17, 2007 at 4:14 am #26473The “rate of growth” of the program was tagged to the rate of inflation, the dollars spent continue to grow – political ‘spin’ to the contrary.
May 17, 2007 at 4:14 am #26476I think the title of this thread is “Indian Country Issues”. I ran across this regarding my area here in Texas and felt it appropriate to post in this thread. I think I know by now after being on this forum since 2001 what is appropriate to post here and what isn’t. If people have a different view or better explaination then fine give it and enlighten us, but really, digressing into obscenity?
Flying Eagle Trading Post is a site for “Beyond Bows and Arrows” on KNON and is tied to the North Texas Indian community and reaches the community into Oklahoma as well.
Thanks for clearifying your take on it.
May 17, 2007 at 4:14 am #26479No one has used any ‘obscenity’ here. “B*S*” may be crude (falling far short of obscenity) but that site is such a travesty of misinformation it’s the only term I would use for such a screed.
One person’s opinion is as valid as any other person’s opinion.
Read this section’s header- it can get pretty hot here because we all have differences of opinion. You’re free to say what you want but no idea should be free of criticism.

Last time I checked “bullsh*t” was an obscenity. Perhaps you could explain what in the information is “european-philosophical bullsh*t” and what is “Orwellian”.
May 17, 2007 at 4:14 am #26487In Omaha/Ponca that word would be Ta Nuga She , Ta=Buffalo Nuga=male(and such) She= *, that is if I remember correctly; though I wouldn’t swear to it:D 😀 😀
I agree if you don’t agree with what’s posted here it’s best to get it off your chest here and over with rather than carry it to other threads…it’s just as easy to disagree in a respectful manner as disrespectfully. Though I also would remember what Tom said in the REPLY thread as good advice:
Once again “be respectful to others”!
Just a word of caution, because one forum may be refered to in a casual or laid back way it does not mean that guests or members can go unchecked there or in any other part of Saponi Town.
You know, I’d like to think this is a site that teenagers and children could visit and probably do. I think Dreaminghawk has it right about how important this site is. I think opinions can be fully expressed with dignity. (Guess I just had a lapse on lines 1 & 2)
May 17, 2007 at 4:14 am #26491Well Bill, I tryed.:( I visited flyingeagletradingpost there were just a couple of Indian political issues listed, one on Indian Health and the Indian Child Welfare Act. I still need to search out the truth between what they say and you say…other than that this is a VERY NICE authentic respectable Indian family site. I especially enjoyed the pow-wow pictures. There’s a great deal honoring veterans and current troops. Perhaps you’ve disagreed with their political positions in the past but I don’t think that is enough of a reason to trash good respectable people. It takes a variety of political positions to have a Democracy. Isn’t Democracy a good thing? There are links to all the official tribal sites in the area. I don’t understand why you think it’s okay for the Saponitown site to trash fellow members of the larger Indian Community. I certainly think that is wrong.:o I know that is not the Indian way. There is absolutely nothing at that site reflecting European Philosophy that I see other than what they have now is a reflection of being controled by the US. What if a young person or any person with their pow-wow pictures on that site comes here and sees this? How will they feel about us? We represent something larger here and very important. I have to agree that there are vicious political blogs all over the internet for people who want that kind of thing. In my family of origin and the one I raised, respect was required. We were always allowed to express our thoughts and feelings feely, but respectfully. I don’t want Saponitown to be a “disfunctional family”. The flyingeagletradingpost is very typical Indian. I don’t understand. I mean yah maybe it would be nice to go back to pre-contact days but we’re stuck with what we have.
Adj. 1. Orwellian – of or relating to the works of George Orwell (especially his picture of a future totalitarian state)

May 17, 2007 at 4:14 am #26494Spokane, Washington has one of the largest urban Indian populations in the USA, and is also within shouting distance of numerous reservations. The local newspapaer, the Spokesman Review, has had a series of well written articles on Indian issues. More than one article has noted that Bush, for the 2nd straight year, put ZERO dollars for urban Indian health care in his budget. Congress put money back into the budget for that item a year ago. It’s unknown whether that will occur again this year.
Indian Country Today has also mentioned the proposed zero budget for urban Indian health care. There have been many articles about this the past several months at this publication, most of which are archived at its webpage.
The entire Indian Health Service system is also radically underfunded. My in-laws on 3 separate reservations were told as early as mid-March this year that IHS could only treat them for life threatening illnesses, a definition which is becoming more and more nebulous. In the instance of IHS, the problem is more a case of the budget is increasing much more slowly than costs.

May 17, 2007 at 4:14 am #26510Do we not have the same problem with the Medicare system? My mother was told when she had back surgery that she was not allowed an aide to help her with hygiene because it occurred above the waist…which makes no sense at all, she’s in her 80s. If your problem is below the waist, then you are eligible for help. And this is the system that is servicing most of our elder Americans? What hope do we have for any kind of medical help when we reach that age? And dear folks, that is “baloney”………
