Hi there,
I think I will attend the event below. :D:D
__________________________________________
11th ANNUAL “COMING TOGETHER” FESTIVAL TO BE HELD IN RICHMOND COMING TOGETHER: The Link and Legacy of Native and African Americans will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 8th, rain or shine. There will be drumming, dancing, singing, discussion, and cultural information. The observance marks the 390th anniversary of the African settlement near the Weyanoke Indians in what is now Charles City County. This eleventh annual free outdoor event, sponsored by the Weyanoke Association, will be held at the Powhatan Community Center, 5051 Northampton St, off Williamsburg Rd in Richmond, VA.
Call 804/307-8807 or 757/826-6437 for more information, or call the Center at (804) 646-0973.
The heritage of both indigenous North America and Africa will be celebrated. The festival will include a procession, a brief opening ceremony, performances, and ample opportunity for informal learning and discussion. Chief Lynette Allston (Nottoway Indian Tribe of Virginia), Tom Big Warrior (History keeper and Chief, Traditionalist United Eastern Lenape Nation), Dr. Arica Coleman (Professor, University of Delaware), and the Red-Black a cappella vocal ensemble Legacy of Weyanoke will be among those participating.

July 15, 2009 at 12:52 pm #33991Wow I wish I could be there for this event. I will be in NC during that time frame. This sounds like it will be a great festival. The African/Native American story should be shared more often. To be honest if such relations never occured my family would not even exist.
July 15, 2009 at 12:52 pm #33992Yes, it does sound very interesting….wish we could attend, also. We have already made plans to be in Manteo at the pow wow there. May be you can keep up with when it will be held next year and let us know.
Aho
