Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Hey everyone!
I’m researching Adkins from around the Avery County, NC and Washington County, VA area. Primarily looking for John Adkins (abt 1880) and Cordelia Adkins (abt 1880) who were the parents of Marion W Adkins (1910 – 1983, Shelby County, OH). I’m not entirely sure that these are the same John & Cordelia Adkins that are registered on the 1910 census for Wicomico County, MD but they might be (and in that case I’m looking for census records for their parents as well, and whether this would relate to the research on the Tutelo/Saponi “Blackfoot Town” near Dagsboro, MD). Is there a possibility this could otherwise be the John Adkins (abt 1887) listed on the Choctaw Nation’s Dawes Rolls #623 (intermarriage)?
I’m also looking for any additional information about the Adkins families mentioned in the 1943 Walter Plecker letters and “hit-list” which listed the Adkins around this area as attempting to transition to being recorded as “white” instead of Indian or colored in Glade Springs, WV.
Thanks!
