I thought the Hemings descendant’s had demonstrated they were related to known Jefferson descendants via DNA testing.

What could the motivation have been in 1705 to make the enslaving of Indians illegal? Seems out of character considering the other laws being enacted at the time.

Yep old DNA did the trick, and a lot of Jefferson’s white decendents aren’t too thrilled about it either because they can be buried at Montecello!

There was a big bruha over the whole thing some years ago. I’m glad for SH’s decendents.

Ok y’all! I found his race. It says that he’s listed as a Mulatto. I thought that Virginia’s law didn’t grant “Mulatto” status to mixed European/Africans though?
