NOW,
My line is Joseph. I have Memucan, his son, who is my line. BUT
Memucan born 1753, had 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Benjamin, Robert, Charles, Ann, Jean and Susannah and I cannot find anything on any of them. I do know Charles and Memucan are together later in Franklin co Ky which later became Anderson at least where they were.
I have looked and looked and it’s as if none of his siblings really existed. And is it odd to have a person born in 1711 having there first child in 1753? IT IS DRIVING ME NUTS! I wonder is something isn’t really out of kilter? Joseph married Sarah Hunt. Someone else shows another marriage to Elizabeth Warren. I wonder if there is another family? Orange co NC? Cannot find a thing. Sue J
May 9, 2005 at 6:04 pm #14832Just kinda thinking outloud about something you’ve asked about before of ‘missing a generation’…. have you looked for a Memucan Allen or a Joseph Allen born in the 1730s, who might be the father of Memucan, b.1753?
OR….
Memucan Hunt Allen is the oldest child of Joseph and Sarah, and was born in the 1730s instead of 1750s?

May 9, 2005 at 6:04 pm #14833Bill,
The only Memucan Allen I have ever found anywhere shows his birth date of 1753 and death date in 1833 Anderson Co Ky.
But when I first posted here on the forum I mentioned a possible mother of Memucan being a Nanie Qualls only because someone submitted that to the LDS saying he was born in NC and Not va. They showed Nanie Qualls (Quarles) born in 1731 in NC. I’ve never found anything on her. If Sarah Hunt is younger than Joseph he could still be having children easily in the mid 1700-s. But I wonder if he had other wives before her? Anyway, I still find nothing on his other children born in the mid 1700’s..Maybe the dates are off? I’ll keep looking.
Thanks, Sue J
May 9, 2005 at 6:04 pm #14837Bill,
There are some files on rootsweb that show Charles Allen b 1736, Robert 1734, Ann 1738, Jean 1740, Susannah 1744 and Benjamin 1747…they aren’t listing Memucan in theirs.
Charles marrying lucy Bacon with 9 children including a Drury.
Benjamin marrying Jane Russell with 11 children. I have never seen the will of Joseph supposedly in Charlotte co Va 1772. Supposedly Memucan is in it. I’m going to do more searching given these brith dates for children even though others show the original dates I had. Supposedly both Charles and Benjamin went on to South Carolina. And some of the gedcoms and posted info online have varying info. Even these have the same children for Joseph and Sarah but earlier dates. Sue J
May 9, 2005 at 6:04 pm #14840Sue,
What dates do you have for the Sarah Hunt who m’d Joseph Allen?
Additionally….
The mother of Elizabeth Walker, who m’d “bef. 1681”, Robert Allen, was Elizabeth WARREN (m’d William Walker, b. 1640 St. Peters Par., New Kent Co., Va., d. Aug. 1723 New Kent), which is where that confusion related to Joseph Allen’s wife may have been generated. “Elizabeth Warren” would have been Joseph Allen’s GrandMother.
Elizabeth Warren Walker, “d. bef. 3 June 1728 Henrico Co., Va.”
She was possibly “Sarah Elizabeth Warren”.

May 9, 2005 at 6:04 pm #14848Bill,
The only dates I see on Sarah Hunt for birthdate show born circa or Abt. 1715..But Memucan Hunt, brother was born Aug. 3, 1729 and his wife Mary Wade born Sept. 3 1735. Another date I have seen for Sarah’s birth is 1738, but never an exact date.
The Elizabeth Warren as another wife was with father Cerenius Warren..Eliz. born in NC. Where their info is coming from, ????
Didn’t take too much stock in it.
I think I may never sort this out. A earlier date for Sarah makes them late in having children. but the 1738 date would work with the birth dates of children being later but then I can’t find anything on the children with those dates. Going with the earlier dates I found two of the children and marriages IF it’s right. Sue J
May 9, 2005 at 6:04 pm #14853Sue,
The point of my question about dates for Sarah Hunt WAS the 1738 date. That date comes from a “computer generated estimated date” on genealogy.com’s World Family Tree program, computed from other “estimated” dates on her relatives., i.e., “married Joseph Allen, b. est’d 1738” (also).
Here’s where I’m at on this at this time….
Throw the 1738 dates out, but the profusion of people using these “estimated” dates for this generation is at the crux of the confusion which only ‘appears’ to indicate that there may be a “missing” generation, when in fact, the “starting points” were erroneous dates to begin with. Coupled with that problem, Memucan Hunt had a dau Sarah (“Sallie”), b. 10 Nov 1760, which some family trees have obviously confused with the Sarah Hunt who m’d your Joseph Allen! There was also a third Sarah Hunt in the same area at the same time who was related to the other two! (“Rule of Thumb” – there’s never just ONE person with the same name in the same area at the same time.)
The 1702 date assigned to Memucan Hunt’s birth (m’d Mary “Polly” Wade on 9 Mar 1754 Halifax Va), came from the same “estimated” source. (Mary Wade was b. 3 Sep 1736.) A “tie-back-key” is their oldest son John Hunt, b. 5 Aug 1755 NC, d. 1807 Franklin Co., NC; who m’d Mary JEFFREYS on 13 Sep 1787 in Franklin Co.
There are “a few” other problem areas with this generally accepted Hunt/Allen tree that I’m trying to work on.

May 9, 2005 at 6:04 pm #14855Bill,
I didn’t know anything about a computer generated estimated birth in their program. That explains some confusion.
I just wanted to figure out who Joseph’s children married and where they went to but besides Memucan they all have such common names and names used over and over within the Allen line. It may be very hard to figure out. I’m still trying though.
Thanks, Sue J
