Bill,
I was looking on rootsweb last night and found that Amason’s married Barnes and Woodard’s could you verify this with the census and other records you have access too. All the Barnes in our area and I really mean ALL of them claim native decsent is it possible my Amason line is native too? As you know my great grandmother Susan Amasom married Alex Rogers. Her parents were George Amerson and Nancy Ruffin You should be able to pick George and Nancy up on the 1880 census. George was born around 1860 I believe. There are Bailey’s in this line too it appears. It looks like they came from Southampton VA and Bailey is another Nottoway name.

Just curious, are the Barnes you mentioned from Southampton CO and are they in your lineage? I was wondering because Dorothy Barnes (1799-1865), daughter of Thomas Barnes (1769-1836) was my ggggg grandmother.
Thanks,
Dan

I am not sure about where these Barnes came from but yes it is my direct lineage and I suspect southern Va. Hey man we might just be cousins from 2 different lines now wouldn’t that be something? LOL
